morning..2 days in a row, posting... I made it through yesterday on all liquids.. ended the night with some broth for dinner and some decaf tea at bed time.. went to bed early so I wouldn't try to eat.

Decided to make it the 5 day pouch test of sorts.  I will stick to liquid protein today and do softs tomorrow and most of Saturday.  I am having step mom and sister for dinner Saturday and plan to make chicken, so I will just make sure I take it easy on portions at dinner.  Then, go back to day 4 on Sunday.

I am about to make a protein shake and will just do the normal liquids for the day

he of course was not happy to see that the scale hasn't moved.  He wants to know what I'm eating that is doing this to me.  I told him that I am struggling and that I am seeing an addictions counselor starting next week.  He must not have been listening because he didn't say anything about that.  When I mentioned the Depo, he said that no medicine is going to make me gain weight.  That is not true... I even told him that my gyn told me that I may have a problem with it and we would have to wait and see.  A friend of mine gained 30 lbs while on it.. Hopefully, I'll be able to prove the theory as it gets out of my system and I get back into my normal mode.

I did tell him that I was doing liquids for the past 2 days and was trying to retrain my pouch.. again, not much to say.  He was in a hurry to leave as I was his last patient, so I'm really not sure how much he was listening.  Even when I said that I was going to the gym, all he said was at least it will keep you out of the kitchen for awhile.. WTH? I told you I am starting to not care for him.  I wonder if I could go over to LVH or St. Luke's and find someone to do follow up care with me??? Can't hurt to ask, right?

When a doc is clearly not listening and makes disparaging and VERY unhelpful comments like "at least it will keep you out of the kitchen for a while" in my humble opinion it's time to find another doc.  You're going to need supportive followup care for a very long time - really, for life - and if you've got these problems with him now, what will the care be like 5 years from now? 10 years?

Let's refocus here - the scale hasn't moved.  That's good news, given that it could have moved in the wrong direction.  Additionally, you KNOW that there are several "issues" that are likely causing it, in some combination, ranging from the depo to the eating to the gym.  Your body could also be at a natural stalling point, which will make it even harder to kick start.  You've got a plan to positively work through all of them - now it's time to implement that plan.

You deserve a doc who will listen, care, suggest positive and productive things that you can do to manage your weight and inches lost.  Your doc SHOULD be the core of your support system - not a negative irritant.  Sounds to me like he's only interested in the "operation" not the long-term care, support, and followup that's so critical to WLS patients - even though that long-term care is not where the $$ is for the doc.

I'm just sayin... and it's ONLY my personal opinion.

I totally agree with everything you are saying Karen and thanks for validating my opinion.  I wish I lived closer to Barix so I could come to every meeting.. Wednesdays and Saturdays, but that is just not possible.  I do have a plan in place and I am going to kick this monster in the arse!  I have stuck to the plan for the past 2 days and I am going to keep doing it.

You know what is even funnier?  He commented to me that I am still in the honeymoon phase and the pounds should still be melting off... okay, maybe.  BUT, when I mentioned that to his receptionist/office manager, she said "I thought that was just the 1st 6 months".  NICE.. they are the only 2 people in the place and they have different views.

I think she knows more about me than he does because she takes the time to listen.  I mentioned to her today that I had gone down to Barix for support and she asked if that was the same group that had the conference in NY.  I told her that right before I went in October.. and she remembered.. that's good service/patient care.  I wish he was like her.

I am going to make some calls and see if I can see someone at LVH or St. Luke's.  Dr. Boorse at LVH is an excellent surgeon.  From what I understand they also have a great follow up program and nuts on staff.  I'm making a call!
