Pumpkin Roll

To all the cooks,
My husband wants me to try the recipe but when I went to get the ingredients I was floored at how much ground cloves were.  Being that I will not be making this again for some time is there a spice that can be used instead of the cloves?  The cheapest I found was 10.49 for a small bottle of it.  Could nutmeg or something else be used?

Thanks!!

We use pumpkin spice in place of the nutmeg, cloves, etc. plus extra cinnamon.  We also use splenda in place of the sugar.  Sometimes we do half splenda/half sugar in the cake and half splenda/half powdered sugar in the filling.  It depends on if we are making it for ourselves or others.

We also roll it up in waxed paper instead of a towel.  It works so much better and we get less cracking of the cake.

Yea - I use pumpkin pie spice in my pumpkin roll (recipie from bariatriceating.com)  And some extra cinnamon.

The recipie I use doesn't call for cloves - but all "fall" like recipies like that have a similar flavor...and pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon generally have that same flavor!

Have fun!

Thanks, so basically it should have a pumpkin pie flavor?  I will just have my hubby taste test since I do not eat pumpkin.
