Had my first visit with the surgeon today!
Well, I went for my first visit with Dr. Arreola today. He is a great doctor. I am really going to like having him as my surgeon. He was very friendly, and thorough. I did forget to take my notebook with all the questions I had in it.
The girls in the office told me that if I had any questions to call and they would be happy to answer them for me.
Now I have to start all the pre-op testing.
I was sort of confused by what the doctor said about my insurance though. He said something about that since I have medicare that they didn't need to send any paper work in because I have co-morbities. I thought that no matter what you had to get approval from whatever insurance company you have. I did send an e-mail to the insurance coordinator to see exactly what he meant. Anyhow, I am soooo stoked about this finally becoming a reality to me
Is it me or have any of you gotten excited like this when you began the process?

OH YEA!! I cried the day I got my letter of approval from insurance and again when Barix called with my date!
Oh and feel free to post your list of questions - we'll answer them for you as best we can :)
I'm not sure how the medicare procedure works but their office would know best, I think that e-mailing your coordinator is a great idea. Oh and get copies of EVERYTHING! cover your butt!

I just got an e-mail back from the insurance coordinator and she says that they don't have to get authorization from medicare, but I do have to meet medicare criteria which is to have a BMI of over 40 with co-morbities (I have diabetes and Apnea).
Now all I have to do is wait for my binder with all the information to come in the mail and I will be able to start scheduling for all my pre-op tests. According to the surgeons office if all goes well and I can get all the testing done I can look at having my surgery 2-3 weeks after I have completed all the testing.
Oh..I went for my 2nd of the 3 month supervised weight loss appointments and I had actually gained a pound
I guess it was that piece of pumpkin pie I had at Thanksgiving
