Knee Update

Hi Everyone,

On Wednesday I posted about a possible torn meniscus.  Thanks for all your great responses and all the information.  It was very helpful.

Both my primary doctor and the orthopedic surgeon were 99.99% sure it was a torn meniscus.  I had an MRI to verify and guess what...my pain and swelling are NOT from a torn meniscus.  While I am happy to not be having knee surgery, the news I received is pretty interesting.

Apparently, there is a bone fragment in my knee joint.  How it got there or when it happened we can't really tell.  They couldn't tell from the MRI if this is free floating in the joint or if it is stuck to one of the bones in there.  The orthopedist gave me a cortisone injection and is hoping that will help with the swelling.  I am also starting PT next week, but basically I just have to wait and see what happens.  If I don't start to feel it getting better in the next month or so they may have to go in and fish out that fragment.

Hmmm...

Well just wanted to give an update for anyone who may be interested.

Friday...hooray!!!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Wow!  Who would have suspected a bone fragment???  Wonder where it came from?  Glad you don't have to have surgery!  Keep us posted on how PT goes!

Joylyn,

Well, that's certainly interesting news.  And from my friend's experience, fishing out a bone fragment can be a lot easier and less invasive than repairing a torn meniscus, so hopefully if it comes to that it'll be an easy road for you.

Good luck and I hope PT works for you!

Had that happen to a friend of mine they simply slit her knee under anesthea and scoped the fragment out and not a big deal it was a tiny bit tender and she recovered nicely.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the comments.  I am now just going to have to wait and see what happens from here.  I appreciate the support.

This is a great board.

Have a great weekend!
