Thanks for the reminder, Liz!  I'm 6 months out and haven't tried sugar, and I intend to keep it that way as long as possible.   I'm scared of dumping, which is a healthy fear to have, I think.   I'm perfectly happy with a piece or 2 of sugar free candy if I need something sweet.  In fact, some of the SF stuff is really pretty good.  I love Christmas cookies and want to try to make some SF ones that I can enjoy.

Liz,

Thank you for the timely reminder.  This entire week at work has been luncheon after luncheon.  Wouldn't be so bad except that everyone is very dessert focused at this time of year for some reason :-).  So far, I've coped pretty well - avoided sugar like the plague, but the bad carbs have been a bit tougher, which has set up some cravings for MORE carbs.  So I'm being vigilant on that note right now.

Now on to a weekend of baking, which oddly enough seems to not be a problem with the carb cravings.  I guess working with them innoculates me somewhat against being out of control with them.

Pam - I think you hit on an important point, that having them around somehow meant you didn't "need" them.  There's a "scarcity" factor that sometimes comes into play with me - like I've got to "hoard" them because they might not be there later, but if they're there and there are a lot of them, I can be calm about them.  Hard to articulate exactly what I mean.

Thanks!
Karen

PLEASE do not think I am bragging I am not, Just giving perspective.

This time of year is not hard for me really, all the candy, cookies etc that show up all have sugar in them. I dont eat sugar period. This is a promise i made myself that I have kept. It realy takes the heat off of me, when these treats are around, because I dont have to make a decision about it. There is no temptation whatsoever. It has been so long and so part of my DNA, that I would not sooner go outside and eat dirt thanI would any of the treats laying around.

This is why I tell people to think long and hard about testing the waters with the sugar. It is not worth it. I have enough foods that I have to try and avoid like white carbs and chips etc. If I had sugar to conteend with as well,. I would be soooo screwed.

I'm with you! I don't touch the stuff - sometimes I'll take a wiff (I always think of you & HG and the donut case lol) But I won't so much as take a bite!

one thing worse then dumping is NOT dumping, if you don't dump from sugar and eat a little today it will be more next week next month next year and then you can be back where you started from.
it's like when you quit smoking and you start again the first week you may  have  1 cigarette and then the next week it will be 2 and then 1 day it will be 3 a day and there y ou go back to 2 packs a day, this has happened to me with smoking and that is why I don't try sugar cause if I don't dump from it I know in a year or 2 I will be back where I was before and that is my  biggest fear. I never want to go back there. I bought Natures Sweet Crystals(malitol)  it bakes like regular sugar ,   you can't tell the difference except if you eat to much it can cause gas & other things. When I have to go somewhere & I know there will be nothing I can have I always bring a SF dessert with me, I went to a wedding last week and the sweet table wase awesome but I brought some SF cookies to have instead and I ate fresh fruit. I haven't had real sugar since  June of 07 and I don't miss it, my fear of it is more then you can imagine
you are right Liz sugar is the devil.
