I am 29 months out and eat popcorn all the time. Not saying it is right, I would have to go back to the Barix Bible and see if it says anything, but I do it.I have never had an issue. I have an air popper and pop my own so I eat it quite a bit as it is a filling snack for me and keeeps me from eating other junk food!

I especially like to pop it and put the tiniest bit of butter on it and then Parmesan cheese and garlic... yummy!! And I figure the cheese is good for me too! I will also melt cheese and dip my popcorn in it! YAY!!!!

Let me know what you find in the barix bible about that I am curious because if I should't be eating popcorn I will stop as its just my second mini bag.

Nothing in the bible I can find. I seem to remember a lot of debate shortly after I had my surgery though. For some reason I remember poeple saying it depends on your nut. I also seem to remember them saying to wait until at least 6 months?

Linda,

I eat popcorn everyday. And that's not an exageration. It is our snack every evening. I don't allow chips or things like that in the house. So popcorn is our alternative to munching on chips. I have never ever had an issue with upset stomach. I have never been told I can't have it. So I eat it.

Linda,

I have been eating popcorn for quite some time and was never told that it is a problem to have it by the nutritionist at Barix, as it was on my list of stuff that I ate.  I don't think it is something we are supposed to have in the early stages, but later on, unless you have diviterlosis (sp?) popcorn in normal amounts (w/o butter of course) should be fine. . .

When I was being discharged at Barix, I asked Dr. Pupkova's nurse her opinion on what food
Dr. P would most want post-ops to stay away from and without pause, she said popcorn.  She didn't really elaborate as to why, but I've kept that in the back of my head.

Huh, guess I'd be in big trouble then. But he isn't my surgeon. LOL. Honestly, I was never told to avoid it, so I never did.

I did wait many months post op before trying it due to worrying about my pouch being able to handle it. But I guarantee you I have been eating religously for about 4 years.

Watch it come back and bite me in the ass one day. (or my pouch!)

I could believe that until your fully healed it might be a problem. I can`t understand why once you`re healed it would be. Put some popcorn in your mouth and in a matter of seconds it`s almost nothing. I too eat it for an evening snack every night since about 5 or 6 months out with no problems.

I asked Dr Brader and he said my pouch would let me know if it didn't like it. I've had ulcers so I eat the "hull-less" pop corn which is more gentle on the system.
