FITNESS CHALLENGE CALL

Ok guys...it's been awhile since we've had one of these.  A few years back we challenged each other to complete (walking or running) a 5K which is 3.1miles  And MANY of us have done so since that time!  How awesome are we?

A coworker brought this event to my attention.  I was a little skeptical at first because it just seems so....daunting.  But after reading - I'm really considering doing it.

It's a fundraiser for the american lung assosciation.  You need to raise $100 in order to "participate"  they do class this as a "race" but specifically say "if your goal is to be the first one across the finish line or just to fini****" so basically - you don't think of it as a race - just a challenge to YOU and what YOUR NEW BODY CAN DO and at the same time, help a good cause.

It takes place in Philly in March of '10  You climb 50 flights of stairs which equals 1,088 steps.  According to the website (still a little skeptical on this one) "most people who can walk 3 miles can climb 1,088 steps in 20 minutes"  Hell - 45 mins would be a fabulous work out for the day

I'd be willing to register with a team name and people can register "under" me if that's the way people would like to do it.

So.....who's in and what's the team name?

Too soon for me. I am beginning my Couch to 5k challenge next week and will be in no shape to climb that many stairs by then. But good luck, and if you come across anything later in the spring.....post it. I may be interested!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Wow.  Stairs, eh?

Y'know, it would be good to have a goal like this, daunting as it sounds.  My goal will NOT be to be first across the finish line - just to finish somewhere other than dead last.  BUT... I will do it with you Pam.  Sign me up.  (YIKES!!!)

Guess I'm going to add the stair climber into my fitness routine now.  The people on it always look like they're in so much pain, tho!

:-)

Thank you for the challenge!

I absolutely DESPISE stairs by the way.  Stair climbers included.  But what the hell!

There is a stair case at work, so besides me climbing stairs at the gym, I'm gonna do a few climbs on breaks at work and what not and see how I do.

Now we need a name.

I would like to do it, but there is no stair climber at the gym and I live on one floor... hmmmm maybe I could go to the PPL building and climb to the top?!?!

Mark me down.. I'll find a way to train for it

Cool!  I know you live on the first floor - but is their a stair case in your apartment at all (I know there are those three steps to your door, but, eh, that would repetitious huh?  LOL)  You could do that.  Or when you are at the mall climb the stairs their (there is almost always a staircase at the mall hidden somewhere)

You girls ROCK!

Oh - and if you think your daughter would want to do this with you....it might be a bit much but she runs the 5ks for her girls on the run program, right?  They say ppl who do 3 miles can do this.

Got so enthused so I went to website and of course it is on a day I have a wedding in Tampa.  If for some reason I do not go to wedding then I am definitely in.  If i can' t make it I'll definitely donate.   My father had lung cancer.
