Insurance Approvals

My paperwork was submitted last week for approval. I am having serious anxiety about it. The company is Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Does anyone know if they are usually easy to work with? Thanks!

Which Blue Cross affiliate do you have? I had Capital Blue and they were very difficult to work with. My process was long and tedious. I honestly believe they thought if they put up enough hurdles, I would go away.

I didn't of course, and they did come throgh. Took patience and perseverence though!

I have Capital too. So far... I have completed the six months, had what seemed like 100 labs drawn, an upper endoscopy, psych eval, and nutrition eval. When I talked to the insurance on the phone I was advised that Magee is "blue preferred" and to just follow there directions. Any thoughts on the next hurdle?

Just some things to ask about:

Sleep study
Cardiac clearance
H Pylori screen (which was probably part of your blood work)
Requirement for a letter from your primary care physician?
Copies of chart notes documenting obesity related issues from your primary care physician?

You will just want to be sure that all the bases are covered - they were not very forthcoming with the full list of requirements, and it seemed as if they kept pulling new things out of the hat.

Best of luck to you!

The insurance process with almost any company anyone has is long and tedious and nerve wracking be it take a day or a year to get by.

I had BC/BS but I had PPO of NJ @ the time.  Although their answer took a good 6 weeks to come, I was approved on the first attempt.  Then again, I had a great insurance person working with me and I'm pretty sure they were most of the reason I got everything I needed done - they knew exactly what the company would ask for and didn't allow for any loopholes etc.

I have PPOBlue BC/BS, and was approved in 3 days.
I called the surgeon's office on 12-1-09 to let them know all my testing was completed and to verify that everything was received.  I received a call Friday 12-4-09 letting me know that I was approved.  Surgery is scheduled for 12-22-09.
