Hello all, I am a newbie here, or a NEWB as my 17 yr old son would say. I am scheduled for RNY on 12/30/09. If my insurance company had liked me a little more, I would have been having surgery today, but alas, it isn't always that easy to get them to say yes.

I have lost 32 lbs since my initial consult with my surgeon, Dr. Brader from Lancaster General Hospital. That consult was on June 5th. I am extremely grateful for being given the oppurtunity to have this surgery. I am not going to waste this tool that is being bestowed upon me.

I have the priveledge of having two great kids who are a huge support to me as well as many family and friends. Unfortunately, my wife of 22 years left yesterday and won't be around to benefit from the new improved me. I don't think she could handle the pressure of being there for me and being the support that I needed her to be. I am glad I found out now vs. 6 weeks from now when I am done with surgery and really need her help and she can't do it.

I look forward to gaining knowledge, support and friendship from those who visit here and I look forward to getting through this process and being a support for others here in months and years to come. Have a great evening.

John B.

Hi John!

Welcome to the PA board!  Best board on OH!  You'll find a lot of support, advice, butt kicking when needed from the folks on this board.  There are a lot of Brader Babies here---his patients really love him.

I'm sorry to hear your wife left yesterday.  Lousy timing.  Will your kids be able to help you after surgery?  I think you'll be ok, but it's good to have someone around when you're first home.

Keep coming back to the board---it's a great place!

John,

Welcome to the PA board - you'll find a ton of support and guidance here.

I'm glad you have good support from your kids.  Sorry to hear about your wife... BUT... you'll also hear lots of people in the WLS community talk about how people in our lives can be threatened by this type of significant life change.  Some can deal with it, others can't.  Some see this type of change as a judgement of them and their way of life.  It's great that you can have a positive outlook on it - that will get you through it all.

Also - try to schedule ways to get to support group meetings, so you start building your new support network and community.  You're always welcome at barix meetings in langhorne, too...

Welcome and best wishes!
Karen

Welcome to the best board around, John.

Sorry your wife left, but as you and others said, better to find out now then when you really need her.  I left my husband 6 weeks after my surgery, but planned it for 3 or 4 months before.  I didn't want him to think I was leaving because I was too HAWT for him!!  LOL!

Anyway, we are here for you for whatever you need.  We are a tight bunch, but not so tight that we can't make room for more!  There is a lot of love, support and arse kicking here for your needs!

You'll be on the bench with us soon!

Hey John,

Welcome to the boards.  Sorry to hear about your personal issues right now, but you are right, at least you know where you stand and who you can count on.

Congratulations on taking the next step!  There is quite a following of Brader babies here  He was not my surgeon but I did have the great privelage of meeting him at a seminar and he was amazing!

Hope to learn more about you!

Pam
