I have a friend 4 years out that needs help
She lost her Internet ans has fallen on hard times. That is why she can't post this herself.
First off she Is supposed to see Dr. Marymor(sp)? She is unable to get to him and need advice on supplements. she does not know how much calcium to take and what kind they tell you to take.
For those of that use that practice I wanted to know what they tell you so I can pass this info along. I tried to call but because I am not a patient they would not tell me anything. And unfortunately she is unable to call herself.
Very strange issues she is having i know, i just want to help my friend. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I assume she had RNY and not band or DS. I didn't use Marymor but I think the supplement guidelines are somewhat similar in most programs. I was told to take between 1500-2000 of Calcium a day. It has to be Calcium Citrate NOT Calcium Carbonate. I buy the Sam's club generic. You have to split it up to 3 doses a day ---- 2 pills are 600 so I take 2 pills at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I also take B12, Dry D3 - helps for Calcium to absorb, and dry A (my A was low) each once a day in the morning.
I also take iron. You should only add iron if labs show you're low. It can be constipating. You cannot take the iron with the calcium or with any dairy --- it prevents absorption. I take my iron at bedtime. You should take it with fruit, fruit juice or vitamin C to help absorption of the iron.
This is not meant as medical advice --- she should check in with her surgeon.

Tia - below is what I take. I'm 5 months out.
7:00am : Centrum multi-vitamin, B1, Magnesium (helps with constipation), B12 (2000mcg-4 sublingual pills), Biotin, Pepcid (1/2 pill)
9:30am: Iron w/ Vitamin C chewable (Vit C helps the iron absorb better)
12:00pm: Calcium 600 mg (3 Citrical Petites)
2:00pm: Calcium 600 mg (3 Citrical Petites)
5:00pm: Centrum Multi-Vit, Pepcid (1/2 pill), Biotin
7:00pm: Calcium 600 mg (3 Citrical Petites)
I usually get everything from Wal-Mart. I've found it's the cheapest. However, I have found deals on the Centrum chewables at CVS and I've found deals on the Citrical at Giant.
The pepcid is prescribed by my surgeon. I believe that I am to take it for 6 months, so it might not apply to your friend. Also, she may not be having the hair loss problem that I am, so Biotin may not be necessary.

Julia - I don't think the Biotin is helping at all with the hair loss. However, I did read that it is good for when the hair starts coming back in again. So, I am going to stick with it for a while.
My hair comes out in globs every day. Hair is every place. All over my house, all over my car - I even found my hair stuck to my tailpipe.
