Keep yourselves from picking at food while you're cooking????

Oh my goodness...   I was baking on saturday...  I made spiced nuts, and I also made bananna-walnut bread...   the entire time I was prepping, and cooking.. I was picking at the food!   An almond here..  hand full of walnuts there...   same while I was making the bread.  And also while making dinner last night...     Last night I looked back, and was disgusted with myself.  I feel like I got home Friday night, and didn't stop eating until midnight last night!    I feel as if I gained 50 lbs this weekend (which I didn't...  but might as well have!)

How do you all control it?   What are some tips to keep my fingers away??

Mary I have no idea. I was baking and cooking yesterday. I grazed on everything so much while cooking, I was too full to eat dinner. But I had a few bites anyways. Why? Because I spent all day cooking, I wanted to taste the final result.

Pathetic? yeah. And I don't know about you, but I honestly didn't realize I was doing it until after the fact. It was some sort of instinct to bite this and taste that.

I don't have an answer. But apparently you have a partner in crime and are not alone in this one.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

See....THIS is why I do NOT cook!  That of course does not help when you want a snack and the only thing in the house is Cheese its crackers....hmmmm....I guess this wasn't really helpful huh? :)

I was gonna suggest the same thing as Nicole.  I chew gum while cooking to prevent grazing.  Granted - I still do it at times, and sometimes WAAAAY to much.

Also, try cooking direclty after eating, when you are pretty full.  That seems to stop it for me.

It is a pretty tough impulse to break, isn't it?

I like the gum idea.  What I tried last week that seemed ok was to schedule one of my snacks in the middle of my cooking session - and to use one of the ingredients (cashews, in this case) as my snack.  I portioned out what I was going to eat as my snack in a separate bowl, then when I had the urge to pick, I picked out of that bowl, until they were gone.  Didn't break the behavior, obviously, but limited the damages.
