Experts I need you help!
Today is the first day I actually started to feel like a human again, no pain today just alittle bit of uncomfortableness and no nausea.... Yeah. Today is also the first day of full liquids and looking over my daily menu ideas cream soups, sf jello, puddings things that I love to eat at a normal time I cant seem to bring myself to do anything but drink. water, cranberry juice. I had a small bite of jello but what do you do when you just are not hungry? I seem to have so many pills to take in the morning that I think that fills me up for the day. I also have this awful taste in my mouth that no matter how often I brush and rinse it does not go away. Any suggestions.
Thanks Patty

The taste is totally normal - your bodies way of telling you that you are in ketosis. As far as the eating - you need to start getting protein in - it will help you heal and the weight to start coming off. You aren't going to actually feel hungry for as long as 6 months to a year! ENJOY it now! Also - watch the cranberry juice, I would super dilute it and start to cut it out. THere are a lot of "Empty" calories in cran juice not to mention it is acidic and hard on a new pouchie. So for the pills - space them out - take 1-2 through out the day.
Hope this helps!

Liz summed it up beautifully.
Also, the taste may also be left over from anesthesia. Some people report weird tastes for weeks after anesthesia (and not just from bypass, either)
You aren't going to be hungry. You need to eat by the clock. Don't worry so much about getting full amounts of protein in right yet - that will take some time. But definately make the effort.
Also...I agree with the cran thing....go with crystal lite or something like that.
Little bits at a time, it will get better! Oh - and definately try to space your pills out during the day and if you are allowed to take them with food (well, full liquids) even better!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Morning Patty!! - Glad to hear everything went well. I had my surgery Nov 11th, just a few days before you. I drank Gerber Splashers that is what I was given in the hospital, it is very watered down juice, it was also super yummy. I lived by the clock I drank every 15-30 mins and alternated the jello in between. I also spread out my pills and I did my b12 in the AM, and then about 1.5 hours later I would chew my tums and the another 1.5 hours I would take some Tylenol if needed, and then I would give myself a long break and not take any more for a good couple hours. I would chew the 2nd tums about 3pm and then I would take my Coumadin at 6pm. This is what I did, hope it helps. I had a little timer that I set to remind me "time to drink or eat" because I too and still have no desire to eat. Try to get up and walk even if it is just around your bedroom, I think that little bit really helped me get going again. Congrats!!!!

I had that AWFUL taste in my mouth after surgery for about two weeks. I tried every thing! Distilled water even tasted bad. The only thing that helped me was time. After awhile it started to go away things started to taste better. I wish I had some suggestions to make it go away, I tried everything. Nothing worked except time. Sorry!
