worried about holidays coming up

I have also been blogging about this here at my blog www.nickelos.blogspot.com as well if you want to check it out
I usually eat breakfast around 7, snack at 10, lunch at 1, snack at 3, dinner at 6 and a snack around 8-9.
As for the holidays - they can be tricky but remember that love and being with family and friends - the people that you care about is what the season is about - NOT the food! You just have to work on switching your focus :) You can do it! Oh and I always bring a dish that I know I can eat as well as a dessert no matter where I go.

But now we live in another state and will be headed to Michigan for a pre-Christmas celebration. My sister has offered to host....and told me that her menu would be...
PIZZA....
and SALAD.
And of course she would plan on pie for dessert.
Ok, maybe in my past life. But even with a 500 mile drive, I am tempted to tell my mom to just host it and let me do the cooking again...
My sister is significantly overweight and would like nothing better than a holiday as a reason to overeat on pizza. She hasn't seen me since August, just a few weeks post op. I think she will be surprised now, and maybe a little resentful. Gotta love family dynamics.
And I agree with Liz...build some protein based snacks into your day. Even a protein shake or a muscle milk light will help you make it through. It's not good to go 8 hours without eating - with our without WLS as a factor!
MAKE YOUR OWN PIZZA AND TAKE IT WITH Mock Calzone (Crustless Pizza) Preheat Oven to 400. Ingredients: Canola Spray Oil 2 Cup bag of Sargento 4 Blend Reduced Fat Italian Cheese 10 oz. of Hunts Zesty and Spicy Spaghetti Sauce 1/2 Cup Egg Beaters 1 Cup of 2% Cottage Cheese 10 oz. of Frozen Spinach thawed and completely drained In a mixing bowl combine spinach and cottage cheese with a fork till blended evenly, add the eggbeaters, 2 oz. of the sauce, and 1/2 cup of the cheese. Continue blending till fully incorporated. Turn out onto a metal baking pan that has been sprayed with the canola spray. You can shape the mixture round or square, doesn't matter. Make sure the mixture is of even thickness in the pan with no holes or gaps. Top with remaining cheese and drizzle with remaining sauce. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly. Allow to cool before cutting into. Its extremely filling, I suggest cutting into 8 servings. Will hold up in fridge for at least a week. I cut mine and wrap up in foil packets to take to work for a meal. Delicious Cold or Room Temperature. |
You definately need to eat every couple of hours. If you are eating lunch around 1...being hungry around 4 or 5 is to be expected. Technically we are not allowed to eat at the desk - but I do and if they ever bring it up, I have plans to get a doctors note saying I MUST eat every 3 hours - and therefore I must be allowed to either eat at the desk or I need more breaks. Medical necessity.
Anyway - BECAUSE of that....I bring a lot of non obtrusive food to work with me. I don't have a lot of "full" meals but try to get in a variety of foods. Here's my crazy schedule that works for me:
4:45pm: wake up, take synthroid for thyroid (MUST wait at least 1-2 hours before eating) Begin fluids.
6:30pm: Eat "breakfast" at work in the break room as we are getting our assignments, normally a yogurt with fruit (protein + fruit)
Fluids
7:30pm: First dose of vitamins (multi vit, vit b1, vit b12, folic acid) Fluids
9pm ish: Snack Normally string cheese or ricotta cheese (protein)
9:30pmish...resume fluids
11pm-ish: Next dose of vitamins (Calcium and sublingual vitamin D)
12:30am or 1am ish: "Lunch" normally something like half a sandwhich with deli meat, cheese, and veggies, 1/2 - 3/4 cup chilli etc. (protein, healthy carbs, veggies) **most** of the time I get to eat this on an actual break, but not always
1:30am resume fluids
4am: Snack Normally another yogurt with fruit, or a piece of fruit with PB (protein and fruit)
4:30ish Resume fluids
7:30 or 8am: "Dinner" This is normally at home so I try to have a more balanced meal...whatever hubby had for dinner the night before and some veggies.
Last dose of vitamins: Multi vitamin, colace (the calcium binds me)
On occassion my times are off and I end up getting hungry around 5 or 6 so I have a snack then....whatever I haven't had twice in the night already (IE: another serving of ricotta or another few string cheeses....)
Almost all of my meals are more like "snacks" as in size (IE: 2 string cheese with a few crackers, or 1/2 - 3/4 cup ricotta, 1/2 a sandwich) except for my meal before bed. This is so I can throw a lot of little things in my bag for work that take little work to heat up and/or eat and/or think about and I always have extra with me of healthy choices so I don't become over hungry and eat the crap that's laying around, and all stuff I can keep at the desk with minimal notice from others. I normally also keep a protein shake in my lunch bag - I very rarely drink it, but it's there just in case.
