I've been in records management in the pharmaceutical industry for 9 years, temping for 3 of those years.  I'm currently working on a project at Wyeth/now Pfizer (yeah, Liz---I see your work here every day too!  lol).   My contract ends on Dec 18, so I'll be unemployed by Christmas.  I'm ready for a change---pharma pays well but is a tough field to be in.  My plan is to get certified in medical coding and maybe electronic health records.  I did medical billing and a little bit of coding years ago, so it's not a new field to me, although I'm sure a lot has changed.

I haven't worked outside of the home in about 12 years. Holy cow how times flies. I am an LPN, I worked at Lewistown Hospital. Over the last while I have been taking care of people in my extended family who needed nursing. (grandparents, MIL, husband-he had a bad injury several years ag, etc.)I also had some health problems of my own. One of my goals was to be able to get into better shape and return to work. Two weeks ago I sent in a resume for a nursing job, and today I am going to apply for state nursing positions. I am really nervous about this whole maybe going back to work thing, but really excited too. I miss nursing. I love taking care of people, I just hope I have the energy and stamina to be able to do the job.

I am a Technology Project Manager for an academic digital archiving firm affiliated with Princeton University.  If you've used JSTOR as a student, you've seen my handiwork!  We work to get academic journals and other resources digitized and online.  I love the organization I work for, and I love my job, especially with the snazzy new promotion I got just a few months ago.  My educational background is in Philosophy and Theology though, and I consider myself a Philosopher/Theologian first!

Great post Liz....

I work for KMHP in Philadelphia. I've been there since 2003. My official title is Sr. Provider Credentialing and Data Coordinator.

What that means is I'm responsible to make sure the physicians send in all their information with their credentialing packages, then I coordinate with the credentialing department, contract department, and data entry department to get the information into the data base.

I am also responsible for rate negoiations with non-par providers.

And last but not lease I am responsible to run many reports to go over for the integrity of the physicians demographic data in the companies data base, this also requires coordination between many departments to get this completed correctly.

How fun!!  At age 53 I LOVE what I do!  I am a musician, and teach at two different after school lessons four days a week.  I play in a community symphony orchestra, a trio, and quartet.  I also am the rentals manager for a small music rental company.  I do my teaching at local schools and my rental music at home in my basement.

Also am the domestic engineer at home....we have two kiddies (22 and 19) who are in college but live home (out of choice!) and a dog.  Also take care of my dad who is in a nursing home (6 weeks now) and visit as much as I can.

After spending my years from 24 to 50 working full time jobs at companies, I am happy to be self employed and make my own schedule.

Whoo Hoo!!

Great thread, Liz!

For my day (put the kids through college) job, I'm Director of Enterprise and Web Systems (woo hoo) for Bucks County Community College.  What that means is that I supervise the programmers who keep all our major systems running... the systems that handle everything from payroll to student registration and billing and grading, etc... and all our websites (internal and external).  I also do a lot of the web programming myself, as we're perpetually short-staffed.

My "passion" job - the one that i would love to do full-time once the girls are self-supporting - is my jewelry-making.  You can see my work at www.nolimitations.com (but i've got to get more of my new stuff up there!  some of the newer stuff is on facebook, though...)  I also teach lost-wax casting at Bucks.

I'm also married to Eddie, mother of Katie (20 - penn state) and Becky (17 - central bucks hs), and daughter to Drama (89 - who lives with us).  My mom is legally blind and increasingly frail and ornery as all get out, so taking care of her is a significant portion of my time, as well.

I work for a very large law firm in Center City Philadelphia as a Word Processing Supervisor.  I've recently be given the task of supervising the secretaries, as well (for no additional money, I might add).  I can't say that I dislike my job, but I've been working in the legal community for almost 40 years and it's just getting old.  I do love the people I work with, aside from a few bad eggs.  I love the technology of it all, although I don't seem to catch on to it as fast as I used to.

In my spare time I love being MomMom to my sweet Abigail and enjoy every moment I can with my family.

My guilty pleasure is the casino, but finances don't allow that too much anymore.

Well my "Official" title is Coding/Health Data Analyst at Abington Memorial Hospital- what I really am is a  Medical Records Coder. I code (bill) all types of medical records that are generated at the hospital.
