Mammogram question

So I'm scheduled for my first mammogram post-surgery.  It's always been a "struggle" in the past (very painful) to get good pics due to the excess weight.  Is it generally easier after weight loss?  Or does the excess skin cause problems?   Anything different that I should expect?

Thanks!

Hi Karen,

I haven't had a mammo as a post-op yet, but I'm guessing it should be easier now because the tissue is less dense.   Maybe that also makes it easier for the radiologist to read the films.   (And the little thing that makes me happy is that the gown will actually fit this year!  lol)

hmm...i have been getting them since i was 35 and never found them painful....pre or post WSL, so I can't help you.  I have heard that the more boob you have, the less painful it is....but I really think it is all individual.  I would guess that now that there is less tissue, it will give a better or more exact reading.

I am eager though to see if it is going to be painful now that I have implants.

I thought it seemed easier post op. But a word of warning: the mammo tech (or whatever she is called) warned me that since my breasts were such a different size, and since they compare prior films to the new films, I MAY be called back in for repeat films because the "compare" will be so different. I didn't get called back in, but if it happens, don't freak out or anything. But do go.

Karen in my case since I no longer have the belly I am hoping its not as yucky as it was before so I would think at this point it should be better hopefully. I have to have one done this month also an appointment with the gyno which is worst the gyno or dentist?

I was always extremely large-breasted along with just being extremely large, so I found them extremely uncomfortable! LOL!! When I went for my mammo last year it was so much better - of course the 'girls' aren't nearly as full as they used to be so they didn't require as much squishing, and being smaller all over really helped get me closer to the machine so she only had to take 1/2 as many images as before - while it is never a pleasurable experience it is much better now that a lot of the fluff is gone. At least for me.
