my surgery update
Hey Chris,
I'm so glad, along with everyone else, to see you posting. I offer any and every iota of support that you need during this time. I'm glad the ACS has been in contact and is helping you through any way they can.
My prayers to you as you continue through this journey.
Pam

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Chris,
I'm so glad to see you posting and to hear that you came out of the surgery ok, albeit with disappointing news. I'm glad that you have a great support system around you and that your sister can be such help. One of the key things I've found with friends who have gone through chemo is to keep your nutrition up - it can be such a challenge, but it's SO critical to maintaining your strength and positive outlook. Luckily, the WLS food plan is kind of also the ideal chemo plan - lots of proteins, lower fats. Now is a time to really focus on your body's messages to you - rest when it tells you to, exercise (gently) when it tells you to, and keep the nutrition flowing in at a steady pace.
I hope everything goes really smoothly for you. Let us know if there's anything you need!
Hugs
Karen

So glad to hear that you made it through the surgery. That was the first step and prayers have already been answered in that regard. Now on to the rest of the fight. Sorry to hear about the nodes and the need for chemo too. But one day at a time. My favorite thing to remind myself is "Slow and steady wins the race." I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you fight this battle. Keep us all updated as you can and take care of yourself. Also let other people take care of you, that can be a hard thing to do. Belinda
Chris, thanks for updating. You jumped the first hurdle in fine form. I'm sorry there is another now but you'll jump this one too and finish in first place, I'm sure of it. You've got a crowd of well-wishers cheering you on. We'll miss you Wed. Would love to visit you at your sister's if she wouldn't mind. Let us know, we'll go wherever you need us. Also, let us know if you (or your sister) need any help taking care of you or making meals for the both of you. If she needs a break, we can step in there too. Rest, double up the protein for healing and hydrate. See ya soon. J.

1 choice @ a time > 1 day @ a time. Slow to Succeed is still Success ;-)
I would like to thank everyone for their words of encouragement and all your great advice. It is so easy to run ahead trying to fix things when you really don't have any control, or even the accurate knowledge to make informed decisions yet. I am trying to take this one day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time. I'll feel ok, even strong then find myself sobbing. I know I need to just let myself feel everything, and not try to suppress the emotions, but it is exhausting to ride this rollercoaster. I am doing my best to keep my nutrition up, I've been drinking 2 protein shakes a day, plus eating protein foods along with some vegetables and fruit. I brought all my vitamins with me and have been taking them faithfully, and keeping my fluid intake up. Right now the only exercises are the arm range of motion. I can't really do much else until the surgical drains come out, hopefully on Monday, then I'll encorporate a bit of gentle aerobic activity. I know I'm in better shape to deal with this illness now than if I hadn't had my wls. I can't imagine how I would have been able to move myself around at 200 plus pounds! I'll update again after my doctor visits are completed on Monday. Thanks again for all the prayers and support. You are all wonderful people, that I view as family and I'm very grateful for.
Chris
