Hi All -
I saw Dr. P last week for a follow-up visit and some of my levels were low on my labs, so she made some changes and added a few things.  I came up with a schedule and I'm wondering if this is ok or if it needs some tweaking.  Also, am I missing anything?  Let me know what you think.
Thanks !
Lisa

Did Dr. P tell you that you needed to take the calcium in different batches?  If so - continue doing that.  I was never told that by her, so I take mine all at once (1000mg a day total)

I would only be careful with your first dose of calcium and then your vit c/iron an hour later. I think iron needs to be separated by at least two hours from calcium.  And there's probably a scant amount of iron in your multi vit.

Also - with the iron supplement and the added calcium I would add colace or peri colace at night.  Iron is super binding and for me, calcium binds me just looking at the stuff.

Otherwise, looks pretty much right on target.

Oh - what about b12?  She has had me on sublingual b12 from the door.  You can take that with your other first dose of vitamins - but take it last because it is sublingual and needs to dissolve in your mouth.

Did she check your vit D?  I ask because she checked mine for the first time almost 2 years out from surgery and I was very deficient despite the d that is in my calcium.  I needed to get sublingual vit d which I take w/ my calcium because Vit D helps absorption of calcium (or visa versa I forget)

Pam - Dr. P did check my Vit. D levels.  She didn't mention a deficiency.  I can get a copy of the labs from my family Dr.  to check it out.  If it's low, I'll call Dr. P back to talk about it.

If she checked it, I'm sure it's fine.  She's VERY careful with going over labs!

Hi Pam,

As an fyi, Calcium can only be absorbed in limited amounts, I believe the max is 600, but it might be 500, so that's why you actually need to take it 2x a day, also you are correct about the iron, but I was told there should be 4 hours between any iron and calcium supplement. . .

My doctor and even my research from back in the 80`s was that the body can only assimilate 500 to 600 mg at a time. If you want 1500 then divide it in 3 separate doses.

Ditto to Pam. Calcium and iron need to be further apart. And I would take B12.......

Thanks for the input everyone !

I read somewhere that your body can only absorb so much calcium at one time, which is why I split it up.

As for constipation, I take the magnesium, which was not mentioned by Dr. P, but I read that magnesium helps counteract the problems that calcium can create.

I think that I will skip my 9:00am dose of calcium, add it in later in the day and move my iron/C group up to 9:30am.
