Monday Roll Call
oh joy it's Monday.. but, I'm coming off a great weekend!! I had a good time, learned a lot and made some new friends, not to mention meeting Dr. Garth and Mary Jo Rapini! They even hung out with us at the party Saturday night for awhile. Wasn't sure Dr. Garth was going to make it after Lois almost knocked him out when he was out running! LOL!!! j/k.. he was the fool for running in the rain!!
So last night I picked Siehara up from our friends' house and she wasn't feeling well. She had a very low fever. 100.1 I gave her some advil right away and then some night time Tylenol stuff before bed. She seems ok this morning regarding that.. fever is down, but I wouldn't surprised if it went up during the day and I got a call.
She comes into my room this morning and asks me to come into the bathroom with her. She is very calm but I can tell what is going on. My baby.. my 11 year old baby... just got her period!!! OMG WHAT?!?!? She really didn't want me to tell anyone yet, but I know I can trust you all and I had to tell someone. She was so calm and collected and so was I --- LOL! Guess it's good that I never kicked her out of the bathroom so she could see that it was no big deal. Also glad it happened at home and not at school so I could be the one to help her the first time. I calmly showed her how to use a pad and told her how important it is to clean well and change the pad and she is handling it like a trooper! My little girl is growing up....OY
Anyway, she is off to school with pads in her bag and I am back to work. GOODIE! I didn't have too many emails to catch up on, so that is good. Just need to get into the swing of things. After work, will go to the gym. I only went yesterday when we were away and only got on the treadmill.. though the walk from the lobby to our room was enough of a workout for anyone.. holy crap!
That's it for me.. already been an interesting morning.

When I got my period, I was at school, I called my mom at work to tell her. She came home with a balloon and a cake that said "Congratulations"........LOL. I was so embarrassed, butmy mom is wierd like that and now I look back and think it was kinda cool of her to make it more of a celebration, than a curse. although it didn't take me long to decide it was a curse on my own! LOL
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
I always blamed my mother for making mine come on when I was 12 - she took me out shopping and bought me all the supplies - 'way back then' we had to use the belts and/or panties that the pads hooked into -OMG they were sooooo uncomfortable - and one size fit all - or at least that's what the manufacturers thought!! Felt like you were walking around with a roll of TP stuck between your legs (sorry guys...). Anyway, when we got home from shopping I went to the bathroom and lo and behold there it was! Now I'm just waiting for the day when it goes AWAY.
I got mine when I was at bingo... go figure I still love going.. LOL! I went out of the bathroom and whispered in my mom's ear. She gave me a pad. By the time I got back to the table after I cleaned myself up, the whole table knew.. talk about embarrassing!!!
I don't think I'll get a cake for her, but I did implement the same rule that my mom had about makeup. I had told her either at her Bat Mitzvah or when she got her period. Of course, she remembered that this morning. I told her it could NOT be a lot of makeup just yet.
side note.. wondering if the fever has anything to do with this?? It could, I guess... hormonal temperature change???

I was thinking the same thing. Here's *hoping*? (who would have thought you are hoping for a female related fever and/or her cycle? LOL)
Of course the ER nurse in me is also wondering about flu (swine or otherwise, it doesn't matter) Worst case scenario if it is the flu: Tylenol every 4 hours, Motrin every 6. Give the tylenol, check in an hour or two and if it's not down, do the Motrin. Fluids and rest. And expect her to feel like patooey for a good 4-5 days. Unless she has any underlying problems such as asthma or other medical conditions, it will *most likely* just be a really high fever, possibly a cough, some body aches and if she's anything like me when I'm sick - a lot of whining! LOL

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
