My turn for a WoW moment!
So many years out, the wow's are VERY few are far between. So when something does stick out, it's exciting.
Firstly, those of you who aren't on my FB, I got my hair cut Friday night. And I
it! I literally told my hairdresser to just do whatever she felt like. She turned my chair around and didn't let me see a thing until she was done.
I was nervous but knew she would do great. And I adore my new hair.
And the "wow" is that not only did I look in the mirror and like myself.
(First time in a REALLY long time) But I posted my new "do" on FB and holy cripes! I got compliments from almost everyone. Even people who don't typically write anything were saying wonderful things. It made me feel soooo good.
Secondly, in High School, I was overweight. But I was the funny & friendly girl so I was friends with people that you wouldn't think, if you were judging by looks. So anyways, my best friend was the captain of the cheerleading squad, georgous, and the "apple" of every guys eye. And I was her "funny" sidekick. (You get the picture)
So she emails me last night, and says how wonderful I look, and that she is jealous, and she wants me to help her with her weight. She has gained about 50-60 pounds and wants some guidance to help get it off. My mouth dropped. She is jealous on me? Holy cow.
Now of course she knows I had RNY, but she wants be to help her with some food ideas, cutting carbs and give her some recipies of SF, WLS friendly foods, etc. So I emailed her a few things and links. And she is going to come over next month and we are going to have a cooking fest. We are going to cook up some healthy things in bulk so she can freeze some and so can I.
I am looking forward to it, but seriously? The all-american high school girl is coming to ME for weight loss advice. I am still speechless. But I know this tool has allowed me to view food a little differently and has opened me up to many healthy and yummy choices so I will do what I can.
WOW! Feeling pretty good about myself today. And it's been a very long time since I could say that.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
Yes, let me stress that I am not pleased that she has gained weight or is feeling stressed about it. I adore her and know what it's like to battle the pounds so I don't wish that on anyone.
I am just "wow'ed" that I am being asked for advice. I guess I just find it a little mind boggling.

Congrats Jo - those are wonderful wows and I think its really cool that your friend from HS is coming to you for some advice on how to get those extra pounds off - that tells me that she's not one of those who think our surgery is some of 'magic' and that we actually do have to work at it.
Post your new 'do' on here! I just didn't have enough time to go thru everyone's posts on FB so I deleted everyone except family and friends who aren't out here. Would love to see your new hairdo - your new avitar is pretty awesome, too!

Well your do DOES look absolutely positively FABULOUS on you! That's a wow in and of itself - giving somebody control like that takes a lot of guts and good amount of self confidence as well!
And congratulations on being the new food guru! Being able to pass on your knowledge is a HUGE compliment and that is one of the best WOWs I have ever heard of! Congrats!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
