Thigh-high Plastics

Well, hubby and I discussed it last night and its time for me to try and take the plunge into the world of reconstructive surgery - my weight has been stable for at least 6 months (probably a little longer) - I can't exercise the loose skin away, and now its really bothering me physically - its the thighs...they're just ridiculously loose and sagging, weighing down on my knees and causing me pain and aggrevation, and since they're bionic I can't afford to get them replaced again too soon.

So I called my insurance company and they said to meet with the plastic surgeon and get the procedure code for what I would have done and call that into Aetna to see if its covered. If it is I really want to squeeze it in this year since my coverage is changing big time and if I don't get it done now I'll have to wait til at least 2011 to have enough $$$ put aside to cover my deductibles, etc.

I don't know if anyone gets OH Magazine but they did have a very good article last month on thigh reconstruction and trust me, their before pictures don't begin to compare to the ugly things I'm sporting. So it would just be this one procedure for now because thats what is really causing me grief. If it was just cosmetic I'd let it go - I haven't worn shorts in years because of my knee scars and I don't even own a dress anymore - heck I think the last one I wore was my wedding dress 20 years ago!

So if anyone had plastics thru Barix and would like to share their experience I would love to hear from you - please feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable sharing out here - or actually anyone who has had thigh surgery - it would be a great help to me to know what I'm facing.

Thanks so much - Kathy

I just wanted to say congrats as well on making this next step.

I believe Mike M. also had his surgery at Barix.

Good luck!

Kathy,

I am looking into plastics too.  Mine is cosmetic and much more than just the thighs.  I had a consult with Dr. Lam who does PS at Barix.  I am also researching the possibility of going to Mexico to have it all done for less than what Dr. Lam's price was for only 2 of the procedures.  Since mine doesn't meet my insurance company's requirements for reconstructive vs. cosmetic, I will be self pay so I can't help you there.  You may want to check out the PS board.  Tons of info there.

Thanks Lisa - I wish you all the best with yours, too. If insurance turns me down I'll have to wait a while to have mine, but I'm really hoping they'll see that I need this.

Hi
I had plastics with Dr. Lam @ Baix for my inner thigh lift, on March 31, 2009 check out my pix. I am also having a Brachioplasty with Dr. Lam @ Barix on Nov 23 rd, he also did a TT on me in Dec. 2008
His prices are higher then in Mexico, I don't pick PS by price I go by experience and recommendations,  & convenience. If you have surgery in Mexico and have a problem who will take care of you, don't think you can go to any PS in the area to fix it, even little things like I had to go back after my TT several times because I had the drains in for 3 weeks and was still draining, then I had to have the fluid aspirated and with my innr thigh lift I had 1 stitch that was on the inside that didn't disolve and he had to cut it out in the office, so just be careful .

Having the surgery @ Barix was a wonderful experience and I am so pleased. that I am going back for the 4th time, we all know how good the nursing care is there and I can't say enough for Dr. Lam. my scars are beautiful if you come to any post op meetings or Saturays just look for me and I will show you all my scars

Thank you so much! I have an appt on Nov 6 @ 3:30 with Dr Lam - they told me to bring documentation from my doctor and orthopedic surgeon about the pain in my knees from the excess skin hanging - I haven't seen my orthopedic in 8 years! But I'll see if I can get in to see him or at least get something from him in writing. We'll see what happens. I will definitely stay local for my surgery - I just don't have the luxury of time and travel to go Mexico even if I wanted to. I trust Barix and their people - if insurance won't cover this I'll have to wait, but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again for your great info, and good luck on your next round!!
