We ran the 10K today. Embarrassing!
Oh, it was bad. I cried after and am still depressed/disgusted. It was the WORST course...so hilly... the WORST weather...cold and rainy...and the WORST time of the month...day 2 of my period.
I'm mad at myself for having to walk some of it. I wasnt ready and shouldnt have done it. Should have trusted my intincts. It was a small race...only about 50 people, so I probably came in last. My time was around 1: 10....
oh well. here are pics anywany

CONGRATS!! Be proud of yourself for doing it! You finished the race - would you have been able to do that pre-op? I doubt it! You've come a long way and did a great job! The elements were against you so maybe it wasn't your best time but now you know what you can work on for next time
Congrats again!
Congrats again!
Jen,
Wow - take a freaking step back and take a look at yourself. 3 years ago...would you have been able to WALK a 10k? Let alone running most of it in such horrible conditions with ONLY needing to walk *some* of it??????
You have a TON to be proud of, and this is certainly one of them.
First, last, middle - it doesn't matter. What DOES matter is that you finished.
I'm proud of you!!!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Hey Jen,
Listen girl, I understand where you're coming from. I really do. You have high expectations for yourself and you didn't reach the goals you had set for yourself. I want you to think about something. There was a time, not too long ago, that even the thought of competing in a 10K race was unimaginable. The commitment you've made to improve your life, to become healthier and happier, far outweighs the results from your first long race in miserable conditions during "that" time of the month.
There are people that are as far out as you that would die to switch places with you. Your determination will not allow you to stop here. There will be other races and now you have something to shoot for, whether it be a certain time or to simply finish the race without stopping. You've said in the past that you'd like to run the 10 miler down Broad Street. That is still within your reach. We've got about five months to get ready for it and I say it's something we should both be looking towards. Remember, NOBODY can tell you what you can and can not do. Stay focused and determined and you'll be laughing at 10K races real soon.
I think, if anything, you should be commended for even attempting the race considering the conditions. Congratulations on even being there and keep you chin up kid, you'll be fine.
