an idea to run by you...
So I had this thought while I was at the gym the other day, and it keeps popping back into my head at the oddest moments. Figure I'd run it by the "experts."
Have you ever seen a "movement" class designed for PRE-WLS (and early post-op) patients? I'm thinking just basic stretching, movement (walking in place), possibly a little slow stepping, some upper-body work. The types of movements that Dr. P has you do post-op, but also the foundational movements for helping your body recover more quickly from the surgery and then setting the foundation for something more intense down the road as you incorporate exercise into your life. Kinda setting up the "exercise can be FUN" thoughts while also building community and support.
Do you think it would:
A. Be a good idea
B. Be appropriate in a gym setting? (or would that turn off too many people and intimidate them, therefore should be somewhere else like a dance studio or church hall)
Ideas? Thoughts?

I love that idea, Karen. Reminds me of a beginner's yoga class I took in Easton, stretching, meditation, some restorative poses, very gentle, yet gets your body used to the idea of moving. A yoga studio might be a good place to have it, such a welcoming, peaceful environment.

It's suitable for all level of fitness
Karen - I really like this idea. I think think that a church hall, dance studio, yoga studio etc. is a good setting. Big gyms usually have their "class" rooms glass walled and I think I would be somewhat intimidated by other people looking in at me while I was trying to exercise.
Another place that you might be able to set a class like this up would be the YMCA. A class like this could appeal to WLS patients, older folks and maybe even folks just easing back into exercise.

I had my surgery at Temple Jeanes Hospital and they offer a post op exercise class for early post ops. I didn't do it because it's about an hour away for me. It was billed as an ease into exercise type thing not requiring any real equipment --- can do at home once you learn the techniques. I think the cost included some stretch bands.
Ya know I think whoever suggested using the Barix as a spot has a great idea it could be grand central for all of us. We could meet as usual on Saturday once a month and spend maybe 1/2 hour doing them, learn how to do them first and then we can use them at home also. I know it sounds corny but its a thought. And who better to do it with than each other since we can relate to it?
