breast cancer diagnosis
Chris,
Sorry to hear the news, but you are right...you caught it early and that is a good thing. I was right were you are 12 years ago this month, although a different type, so let me know what you need. If you need help with the dogs or anything else, let me know, I am right here. Are you having the surgery at Phoenixville?

Thank you Heather. I haven't figured out yet exactly what my needs are going to be regarding the dogs and cats. I'm going to have my surgery at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, by Dr. Bruce Weiner, he is a breast surgeon. All my testing and post op radiation therapy will be here at Phoenixville Hospital. There isn't a surgical date set yet, that won't be decided until at least Monday at the soonest. I'll keep everyone posted.

Chris,
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I heavily involved in the breast cancer awareness drive this month from work and we are putting togather a survivor's board and I would love to share your story with co-workers if that is okay with you. If not I totally understand. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Remember you are not alone in this as a woman and as part of this great OH family. Lots of cyberhugs coming your way.

Shilpa,
Thank you for sharing, and by all means please go ahead and share my journey. Its nice to know I'm not alone and today is rough. I was more afraid during the bone scan than I was of the biopsy results. Radiation and surgery don't seem so bad. I do find the prospect of chemo overwhelming today. Tomorrow I could feel alot stronger. so one day at a time. I'm glad that you are doing so well, and you're right, without the wls, who knows, maybe I wouldn't have felt the masses until they were alot further along. Please keep in touch. I have to go back to the hospital for the MRI's of my breasts tonight. I'm claustrophobic so I'm not looking forward to this. Thank god for Xanax!

Hi Chris! We met a few months ago at the Phoenixville support group. I was diagnosed with stage 1A ovarian cancer about 14 months after my RNY. The cancer was found through a CAT scan that was done for a probable hernia. I did have a hernia, but I also had an ovarian mass. One thing led to another, as you know that it does, but when I had my hysterectomy earlier this year, it was determined that my lymph nodes were OK and no other treatment was needed. I tell people that weight loss surgery saved my life twice. I may not have found that mass for awhile if I didn't have that hernia. I'm also lucky that I had the RNY before the surgery; it would have been much more difficult at 320 pounds.
It's a scary time, but just take one day at a time. Maybe your weight loss surgery saved your life twice, too.
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
I'll try to make the support group this month!

Beth, I'm sorry I kind of mixed up your experience with Shilpa's. Thank you for sharing. It is very encouraging to hear you did so well, and it does renew my hope for a good outcome. It also helps me feel less isolated as I'm going through these tests. The uncertainty is so unnerving. I hope to see you at the meeting in Nov.
