I did an hour on my Elliptical and will be taking it easy for the rest of the day as I still have this back ache. Any suggestions on how I can build up my upper strength? I want to have buff arms without looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Okay more like Linda Hamilton. lol. I was thinking about investing in PX90 I know it's gruesome workout but I need to jump start my weight loss again. Lost 4lbs but still want to get down another 11-15 if possible. More toning than anything else. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Before you throw down the cash for a P90X, why don't you try push ups? A lot cheaper. Works your back and shoulders, too.

What kind of weights are you using, free, or machine?

Morning, Norm!  And Boom Shaka Laka to you, too!

Did a full STRIVE ciruit this morning, preceded by a warmup on the elliptical.  The weights don't make me all sweaty and stinky (cardio takes care of that) - but they do make everything feel nice and tight and "glowing" for the day!

I agree with you on the great feeling in the legs and glutes on the elliptical  - very different from the treadmill in that respect.  My gym has 2 different types of ellipticals, one is a more "gliding" motion (hard to describe) with an active push-pull with the arms and that's the one that I really feel with the stretch in the backs of my upper legs and glutes.   The other one is more of a "jogging" motion and doesnt' seem to work the whole leg as well.

As a general rule of thumb, the higher the incline on the elliptical, the higher up your leg (and butt) you're working. The treadmill definitely gets me sweatier and more winded, but I really like that muscle burn from the elliptical!

I will be walking on my lunch hour and then heading to the rec center for some lap time in the pool.

I am trying to do some type of exercise on a daily basis.  I have not done so well in the past with all of my knee problems( was a good excuse for me- I can admit that).  You are all a great inspiration to get me to keep moving.  Thanks!!

The pool is GREAT for people with joint pain. I also found the elliptical to be much less jarring that the treadmill when I was wokring through some knee pain myself.

I'm going to a one hour Power Step class tonight, followed by some upper body strength training.  I also plan to take a walk during my lunch hour -- not sure if it'll be a half mile or one mile yet.

Boom shaka laka boom!

Is Power Step a cardio class, or kind of a cardio/strength hybrid? Do you work with weights, or is it more about the cardio movement?

It varies. Tonight's class is going to be 45 minutes of cardio, with 15 minutes of ab and leg work at the end.
