Well, I loved Liz's thread about favorite fall foods and have a new list of apple recipes!

Now I have to turn my thinking to a birthday party I'm attending next weekend.  I've been asked to bring an appetizer.

Bring on the WLS friendly suggestions!

I absolutely loved the roasted garlic hummus from the August cooking glass.  I actually messed the two hummus's and make the roasted garlic but use edamame for more protein punch.  I serve it with assorted cut veggies.

Although tomatoes aren't in full season, one of my favs is mini mozz with mini mozz.  I cut each in half, put half a tomato, a leaf of basil, and then the half of tomato all on a toothpick and serve with a dipping sauce of balsamic vinagrette.

Buffalo chicken dip:  I use 8 ounces reduced fat cream cheese, 1 cup reduced fat ranch dressing, 1/2 cup hot sauce (use more or less depending on taste), a few chicken breasts cooked and chopped up.  Combine ranch, cream cheese, and hot sauce.  Heat in sauce pan until cream cheese is melted.  Throw in chicken (ok, place gently, lol), place in baking dish, top with shredded cheese of your choice (either cheddar, or a combination of cheddar/montery works nicely here) and put in oven until cheese is all melted, and the chicken/ranch stuff is hot (this won't take long because you already heated the sauce...)  Serve w/ veggies (or chips for non WLS friendly folks, lol)

Liz made these little mozzarella things that she wrapped a piece of marinated steak, sliced thin and skewered w/ a toothpick. (steak already cooked, obviously)

My family normally serves something like sweedish meatballs as an appetizer (my family's recipie is roughly one pound ground pork, one pound ground beef, 1/2 an onion, 1/4 - 1/2 cup milk, 1 egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper.  Mix meats together.  In a blender combine milk, egg, onion and process until smooth.  Pour into meat mixture, add salt and pepper to taste, breadcrumbs until mixture is easily handled.  Make mini meatballs, bake in 325 oven until cooked through.  Serve w/ brown gravy)

There's always a fruit or veggie tray...but that can get old.

Spinach dip in a bread bowl but make w/ greek yogurt instead of sour cream for added protein, lower fat,  and serve w/ veggies

Ok...how about buffalo chicken dip (I would need the use of your oven when I get there to reheat it) and sf cream puffs for dessert?  I could even try experimenting and try to make some of the sf cream puffs pumpkin tasting?

I like hummus too. You could spread on low carb tortilas and roll them up then slice into little spiral rounds?
