home from hospital
Well I had my surgery on Wednesday the 30th, came home on Friday the 2nd. Everything has been pretty well. Ihave been walking, walking, walking maybe to much cause today I have been in bed the majority of the day in pain. I am only taking my pain meds maybe once a day. They make me so sleepy i cant stand it. There was no complications with the surgery. The pain afterwards was worse than I expected, but I loved the pain pump..lol. I had surgery at 7:30a.m. and was in my room around 6p.m. i went walking at about 1a.m. and didnt sleep all night. Second day was decent. I walked alot again, They took me for my upper GI at 8 in the morn so i was able to get some broth by 8:30. All in all it was a good stay, with no complications. I came home and since have been fighting with myself on weather or not I'm hungry, and what the heck did I do...lol That peice of chocolate cake looks to to good...lol..My family (esp hubby) has been wonderful. I went into the hospital at 262 pounds. I left at 274 pounds?? What the heck!! I asume its gas and water from the IV. So a few days later I am back down to 263, and doing well!! I am supper glad to be home, and look forward to joining the loosers bench.

Paula,
Welcome to the losers' bench!!!! I'm glad to hear that everything went well and that you're home now!! It's not unusual to gain weight in the hospital---you're right that it's from the gas and IV fluids. Keep walking, sipping, and resting. It will take a while till you can reach your fluid and protein goals, so be patient and keep plugging away at it.

Congratulations! Yep, the extra weight is just from the fluids. What you are feeling is head hunger....It will be a long time before you feel real hunger again. I think I was 9 months out before I felt physical hunger...and even now, it happens rarely.
Get lots of rest and keep sipping those fluids and walking. You are doing great.

Ah yes, the water weight gain. You can know in your head that it's coming, but still...
I was not quite as prepared for the puffiness and swelling in my abdomen. So nice when that goes away!
Congratulations on doing so well. Walk lots during your recovery, rest when you need to, and keep the water going!
