Port Infection

Hi all,

I recently had my surgery on Sept 3rd.  Last week I called my doctor because my port incision was very red. I started antibiotics on Sunday and on Tuesday my incision opened and started oozing. I called the doctor again and he said to just make sure it stayed clean and covered. My antibiotics ended yesterday and the area is still very red and oozing. Has anybody else run into this problem? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Call Dr. Boe.

edit to add:  Never mess with an infected port.  I just went through this and it is not fun.  An infection in the port area is never a good sign.

I agree with Beth - Call Dr Boe and demand that he see you!! Let us know how you make out. and YES I would call even though it is saturday - get the Dr on call, better to get back on the antibiotic right away if that is what they want - that is what they are there for - call!

Thank you for the suggestion.  I called Dr. Boe and he prescribed more antibiotics for me.  If I still have the oozing on Monday he wants me to come in.. Thanks for the peace of mind.

Crystal - please make sure to go see Dr. Boe.  I wasn't going to 'bother' Dr. Brader with my port issue back in July but I just felt like something wasn't right.  I did everything he said to do and it just wasn't getting better.  Near the end I thought he probably thought I was a giant pain-in-the-butt but I wasn't feeling well.  I am so thankful I 'bothered' him back in July.  I hope you feel better.
