Did I avoid the hair loss issue?

Alright everyone...here's my question...

If you had any hair loss...when did it happen?
A few months after surgery?  At so many pounds lost?

I lost 65 lbs before surgery and have lost a grand total now of ~107 lbs total since last October. (My surgery was in July 2009.)   I am wondering, since I've lost my weight over the course of a year, if I've avoided the hair loss issue.  I have incredibly think hair...always...and that seems to have not changed.  The texture may have dried out a little, but I've seen no hair loss.

Is it still to come?  I know I haven't gotten in enough protein, because I'm still eating very very little and don't routinely hit the target for protein, though I'm trying hard everyday!

Your opinion?

Pat

Everyone is different, but I personally didn't start losing hair till I was nearly 4 months out!!  and when it started.... wow... lost about 50% of my hair...   Now, however, my hair is just as thick as it was when I started!   I take Biotin each and every day, and keep my protein levels high... I don't think you can avoid it, but if you keep your levels up, vitamins and such, it usually comes back to normal.. I say usually cuz I do know of a couple of people whose hair stayed thin.

Congrats on the wonderful progress you have made!!!  Keep trying with the protein!!!!

I'm a little over 3 months out.  I started losing hair early.  About a month and a half in.  Not a crazy amount, but some.  Now, a lot is coming out.  Everytime I wash my hair, comb my hair, even running my fingers thru my hair brings out at wad of hair.  I try not to touch my hair too much.
My hair has really thinned out.  Fortunately, it's not too noticable.

Not sure if you have dodged the bullet yet.

Lisa

I'm 4 months and it just started for me. I lost 30 lbs pre op and only 40 since surgery so maybe it's still coming for me!

Hi there. My hair loss started almost imediately. I am just over six months out and still losing by the handfulls. I estimate that I have lost about half of my hair, and it used to be pretty thick so thank God for that. I would hate to see what I would look like if I started out with thin hair. From everything I have read it will grow back. I hope. As a matter of fact I am going to pick up some Biotin today and start taking it to see if that helps. Good luck I hope you are one of the lucky few who get to keep your hair.

What is Biotin and how can I get it?  Can I take it before hand to eliminate the possibility?

I'll be 4 months out on the 8th and my hair is coming out in clumps!
I just went and got some lace front wigs and feel great wearing them.

I take biotin and take vitamins, but it has affected me big time.  My doc
that it is temporary, but man, it has been tough.
