Food Question

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone had a great day.

I have a food question please.  I start solid foods tomorrow and have the following questions.

I had a gastric bypass and I was wondering how many calories people have once they begin solid food.

Also, I was wondering if portion sizes for each meal are still 2 ounces.

I appreciate the information.

Thanks much.

portion size is still about 2 ounces but check with the specific guides laid out by your nutritionist. Calories at this point don't really matter (we were told not to count them) count your protein, water, fat and carbs and you will be in good shape. If I had to take a guess you will probably be around 500-800 calories this early out.

Some days at 2 1/2+ years out I struggle to get 1000 calories.

Take it slow with the real food and remember to chew chew chew and eat EXTRA slow!

Liz,

Thanks.  I appreciate it.

I am down 26 pounds in 3 weeks and totally amazed.

:-)

ps  I am beginning to feel a little stronger. I was put on prescription iron which I started tonight.  So I am hoping there is an end in sight.  They took new bloodwork today and I am supposed to get the results on Friday.  I am hoping there is an improvement.

I was told that peri-colace was a better choice than just colace.  If you still have any constipation issues with the peri-colace, pair it up with fiber-stat.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Wow..shows you how different each surgeon is.

I wasn't on solid foods until 6 weeks post op (one week clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, one week pureed, one week soft, and then solid)

Take it really really REALLY slow with the solid food thing.  You are still healing.

Like Liz said...don't worry about calories.  Protein first, stay within your fat guidelines for the meal and for the day, and carbs, if ANY...absolutely positively last.

My portion sizes were between 1/4 - 1/2 cup early out...depending on the food.  For example..I was able to eat a 6 ounce yogurt w/o issue...but could only tolerate about 2 ounces of chicken, if that because it's so dense.

And try all new foods/textures/spices at home.  Nothing worse than being sicker than a dog at work!
