Am I "normal" ?

Hi all -
Today is 3 months since my surgery date.  I am down 50 pounds plus the 5 pounds that I lost just prior to surgery.

Is 55 pounds in 3 months average, below average or above average???

I know that we are all different when it comes to our journeys - I'm just curious as to how others did when they were at the 3 month mark.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

It's all a matter of how much we have to lose, and what percent of our body weight is from fat.   It's hard to judge what is actually "normal" for us, because we're all beginning our journeys at different starting lines.
How much do you have to lose overall?   What is your goal weight??  The average excess weight loss is expected to be 15 percent at one month, 31 percent at three months, 47 percent at six months, and 60 percent at nine months....

Hopefully this helps!

Hi Mary - thanks for the quick response.

I started at 273, my current is 218 and my goal at this time is 170.   Going by your averages, I guess I am right around 50%, which puts me a little ahead of schedule.

My goal may be a little too high based on my height (5'5"), but I really can't fathom getting down below 170, so I guess I'll cross that bridge if I get to it.

Thanks !
Lisa

It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job!

You and I are the same height...   and they told me my goal was 135   I'm nowhere near that, nor will I ever be.

I started out at 415...  so I had a whole heck of a lot more to lose than you.

Keep on doing that you're doing, and you will be just fine!

How do your find out your goal weight?  I mean - intellectually I know that I need to find a comfortable healthy weight and a number is just a number but really....It is a pretty exciting number for sure!  People are now asking me how much more I plan on losing, I have an idea about what size I thikn I can live with, a 10-12, however, I also know how little I am - 5' 1.5".  So, I am just more curious than anything else.

use the BMI calculator on here to find out what is "normal" and then I would go in the middle of that range somewhere.  That's what my plan is.  I have about 10 lbs to go to be overweight!!!

Mary's the bomb when it comes to this stuff.  I would have never ever EVER remembered the monthly percentages.

sounds like you are doing well!

Keep up the phenomenal work!

Thanks for all of the responses everyone !  I'm going to keep on doing what I am doing and see where the journey takes me.
