I'm home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am home from the hospital.  My daughter brought me home last night.  Gene had clients last night and was unable to re-schedule them on such short notice.  My daughter is the best, she came over from NJ just to pick me up, get my perscriptions filled, and bring me home.

Surgery went well.  I remember the nurses in the recovery room yelling at me to stop putting my hands on my tummy, I kept telling them I wasn't, then said that I wan't doing it on purpose how am I supposed to know what I'm doing when I'm on drugs I mean really......didn't get up to my room till around 10:30pm or so, Gene was at the hospital with me till midnight the first night.

Day one after surgery was rough, I was taken out of my room for many tests.  I was so tired I could not keep my eyes open much less wanting to walk to the door to get onto the gurney to ride down to the x-ray department.  My first test was my last leakage test, that one was tough, had to stand then they laid the table down while I was still standing on it, God with drugs in your system, that is so weird to take that ride.  Then back to my room get all comfy, and was told I had to get up for another test, I had to go down for a Venus Doppler of my legs to check for blood clots.  Again hitting the button on the machine it hurt so much to move.  Get back from that, then they tell me I needed yet another test before I could have anything to drink, I had to get out of bed walk to the door again to be taken down for a CAT scan of my lungs again checking for blood clots, after that x-ray I didn't have anymore in me to get off that table they had to flat board me to move me back to the gurney to bring me back to my room.  I didn't have any blood clots but there were too many of something in my lungs collapsed so I had to play with the spirometer more often than normal.  It was tough because it hurt to take those breaths but I was determined to do it.  After the CAT scan back to bed I went, and was brought some beef broth for dinner - boy did that taste good.  Gene was wonderful running back and forth to the microwave to heat my broth every hour so I could sip my one ounce an hour.  Getting out of bed to walk to the gurney was a problem, I was so nausious they had to give me a shot before I could stand up.   I did go for a walk after dinner, again getting sick to my stomach but didn't throw up, went back to bed to lay down.

Day two was better.  That morning was the last of my morphine pump so I was still pretty out of it, could not keep my eyes open for long periods of time.  I got out of bed and sit in my chair for a good portion of the day.  I had a student nurse all day Wednesday, she is going to be a wonderful full time nurse.  I was her first bariatric patient as well as her first patient that could not have Heparin so i was a teaching moment for the whole student nursing class that was on the floor that day.  They learned about HIT, what it means, and how to treat when a surgery is necessary but the pateint cannot have heparin.  I learned a lot from their instructor that day as well, I enjoy those learning experiences   I started out with my morning tea, 1 oz every hour, then had chicken broth for lunch and beef broth for dinner.  My daughter and son-in-law came to see me and Gene came after he got done work early afternoon.  Gene took me for quite a few walks around the corrodors, he was surprised that I was up and walking.  (remember he had complications after his surgery, he was not out of bed for almost a week)
I enjoyed the walking and later in the evening the IV was taken off me, all I got through IV was the Pepcid morning and evening for Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday.

Day three, yesterday I felt really good.   I was getting bored with TV, should have brought some books to read.  I walked to corridors, I'm surprised I didn't wear the tiles out I was enjoying my walks so much yesterday.  Doc came to see me in the morning asked if I wanted to go home, told him if he thought I was ready, so he ordered another Venus doppler told me if there were no signs of blood clots I could come home.  Part of being bored with the TV was waiting to have the test down, didn't go down for that till around 3pm.  My other surgeon came in about 4 told me the doppler was good and I could go home.

I came home off all my previous medications, as long as my sugar readings stay under 160 I'm off the diabetes medications.  If they go over 160 for a period of time I have to call my surgeon so he can figure out what to give me and the dosage.  I'm praying that I don't go over 160 at all, this morning I was good, so I have to take my readings every 6 hours till I see him next week.

Last night was a little rough sleeping.   Woke up quite often.  Now I'm off to my sipping and walking around the house.  I'm waiting for the DME company to deliver my arexthria shots that I'll be on for the next 10 days to prevent blood clots.  Then the visiting nurse will be coming out today to check me.  My surgeon likes to have them come out 3-4 times after we come home.

Hope everyone has a great day and thank you for all the posts ;-)

You guys are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs,
Ida
