Hi there,
I use to feel the same way about underwire bras but they really work wonders to lift and support. You probably need something like Playtex for full figured women and they are reasonably priced at Walmart and Target usually between $13 or $15 on sale. I hope that helps they also have some full figured bras without the underwires. I now swear by underwire bras the old me would not have touched it with a 10 foot pole. Hope that helps:)

well do you know your current size now?  If you are a 40 band size or smaller go to Vicotria Secret to get sized... if you aren't 40 or smaller then messure yourself band wise... sorry places like Boscovs and such do a crappy job measuring...

Just get a cloth measuring tape and put it where your bra band goes and measure... the math they do for figuring a cup size is crap... so start one cup size smaller than what you were and just try them on... because depending on material and cup shape will make a HUGE difference in how it fits... but as you go down in band sizes the cup sizes also get smaller...

I did bra fitting for a year + at Lane Bryant... and this was the best way to find the right fit...

for the best support look for a bra that has 3 hooks in the back... and there is some great non wire support bras... bali makes a nice line... I think Kohls carry them... but Kohls carries the biggest selection of bras... if you aren't far from Reading the next best place is the VF outlet...

I swear by the bra below.  It's a Playtex 18 hour bra with comfort straps.  No underwires. I'm rather busty, and they girls are steadily heading south.....  It lifts and seperates really well. The style # is 4693.  Kohl's (and other stores) often have them on sale 50% off.

I always hated underwires because they hurt, too, but trust me, as you lose weight they get a lot more comfortable and they're all I wear anymore because of my poor saggy girls. They're 52 years old now and had always been HUGE - they're a lot smaller now (as all of my family and friends like to point out even tho they're still 40 D's) but anyway look for something with a soft underwire - they are a lot more supportive and comfortable now. My BFF gave me what she called the 'ugly Penney's bra' - she and her girls were all busty and loved these bras for the support - of course they STOPPED MAKING THE DARN THINGS!

I haven't gone out for a formal fitting but a friend of mine told me that Lord & Taylor have an excellent fitting department for bras, especially if you're large busted and they will recommend good bras - they're not cheap, but probably worth it.

Good luck - happy shopping!!

I love bras from Lane Bryant.  I just bought abother one but I can't remember off hand what it was called...it's almost like a Demi cut....Very flattering....a tad pricey if you have to keep buying new ones ( like me)...had surgery April 09 and have bought 3 bras already....lol

Good luck

I SWEAR by Fredericks!   Their smooth sensations is the best!  If they can hold up the likes of Porn Queens they can hold up and reshape my tube sox into something sweater worthy!   I heard they are discontinuing the line (in stores only) I like so they are on sale right now and I just raided them for colors.  I'll have to shop online now.   If you are fitted properly you shouldn't feel the underwires (just like a good fitting contact lens) and the girls at Fred's are experts in boobies.   Go get fitted, try out the replacement bras, make sure you tell them you want full coverage on the sides and see what you get.   I can't go back to Kohl's or Penneys now and VS has always been a joke to me, I bounce so bad in them I bruise my chin.
