Got my surgery date!!!!
Its finally happening! I'm scheduled to have my Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass on Monday September 21,2009.
Since my first consultation 2 years ago and all the insurance issues its really happening now. *pinch me*
I'm currently on Dr. Boe's 10 day liquid diet. Drinking nothing but protein shakes, crystal light, broth and jello. Even foods that I hate are looking like heaven right now. *LOL*
I looked at upcoming surgery dates and it appears I'm all alone. Oh well.
I know I'm a dork but I couldn't wait to add my surgery date to this site and change "Hoping to have surgery" to "Surgery date scheduled". and start a weight loss tracker for my posts.

congratulations. the time will fly by and you'll be heading to the hospital before you know it....
Good luck with your liquid diet. Those two weeks flew by for me that I was on mine. I just finished mine last night at midnight and will be heading to the hospital for my surgery surgery in about 1 1/2 hours

Thanks everyone. I can hardly concentrate on my work or school. My mind is all jumbled up with surgery stuff. I've never had any sort of surgery. What will it be like when I wake up for the surgery? I know its different for everyone but a general idea would help. Will I feel groggy, pain, nausea, cold, will I have a drain or any other sort of tubes in me besides the PCA pump? How long after the surgery will I be "with it" enough to talk to family and such? Anything else I need to know? I'm excited but scared as well. Never been in a hospital besides the one I work at. *lol*
I woke up from surgery feeling a little groggy and disoriented and COLD, but I did not feel any pain. I distinctly remember that because I kept asking "Did she do the surgery? Is it over?" The staff in the recovery room at Barix were really nice and they answered me kindly when I kept asking "What time is it? Can I go upstairs?" and they brought me blankets because I was freezing. You'll have an IV in you for fluids and the pain pump (LOVE that!), and you'll have on these "space boots" which are compression boots for your legs -- another measure against blood clots. They don't hurt, I just remember thinking "Hmmm... that's odd!" I don't know if Dr. Boe uses drains or not -- I don't think so, but I can't say for sure.
Once they bring you upstairs to your room, they'll get you settled, and then you can see your family. You'll be able to talk to them right away. I was a little groggy, but still able to hold a conversation, and I remember being so happy at that moment to see my family.
It's normal to feel like your mind is all jumbled up this week -- I felt like I was working with half a brain the week before my surgery, and I felt every emotion from excited to scared to nervous to happy, all at the same time. Be gentle with yourself this week -- your day will be here soon. One last piece of advice: the cable TV at Barix is awful, so bring some mindless magazines to look at. I read People, Us Weekly, & Entertainment Weekly while there because that's about all my brain could handle. Also, bring a good pair of slip-on shoes for walking the halls (I wore Crocs).
Best wishes for your surgery. You're going to do great! And you're in very good hands!
