Anyone have GBS at Temple in Philly?
Hello,
I am new to this site. I am researching GBS for a few months now and just went to a seminar at Temple in Phlly. Dr. Ian Soriano was the surgeon that held the seminar. Has anyone had GBS or any bariatric surgery at Temple? If so which surgeon would you recomend? The 3 there are:
Dr. Ian Soriano
Dr. Dempsey
Dr. Meilahn
Thanks
An

Hi Ann,
Welcome to the PA boards
I am having my gastric bypass surgery today RnY with Dr. Dempsey @ Jeanes hospital. My husband had his gastric bypass RnY @ Temple in 2006 with Dr. Kowolski who has recently left the practice.
I really like Dr. Dempsey, howevever, he only operates open rather than lap. I feel very safe with him. I also have a medical condition and through research found out that he has dealt and operated on patients in other surgeries that have the same condition. He has not performed Gastric Bypass on a patient with my medical condeition so I'll be his first. Today in sugery he will also have one of the other surgeons in the practice @ Jeanes in the OR who does the Lap prodeedure just in case I do not have too much scar tissue in my abdomen and they can do the procedure lap. That is Dr. Patel, who I met at a seminar but have not see nor spoken to in about a year, when I started this journey. But I did research him and found him to be a very good surgeon as well.
I have met Dr. Meilahan, when my hubby needed to have the scope to open his stoma at one point because Dr. Kowalski was away on vacation. Dr. Meilahan is a very good surgeon, however he had no sense of humor so I was not drawn to him.
Hope this helps a little.
Good luck on your journey....
Ida

Ann,
I had my surgery with Dr. Kowalski at Jeanes which is affiliated with Temple. I didn't know he had left the practice. My 1 year followup is scheduled in Oct (actually date will be 13 months) so don't know what will happen now. I felt the office staff was great for the pre and actual surgery part but can't say I'm thrilled with their aftercare. Their support group is on Wednesday at 5:00 which I can't make so I go to the Barix one now but took me a while to start going. I also use this board as well which helps tremendously.
Good luck with your research. It truely is the best decision I ever made.
