Doctor's visit

Hi everyone,

I went for my 1st post-op doctor's visit and everything is great.  I am back on track.

I am allowed to drive and can start to use the treadmill slowly beginning tomorrow.

He put me on a gall bladder med for 4 months just for precautionary purposes.

I am allowed to begin pureed foods now for 2 weeks, then switch over to solids.

Funny, all the anticipation of food and I am not even hungry....lol

What happened?
:-)

Wonderful news on the doctor's visit - glad to hear you're on your way!! Trust me, you won't be hungry for a long time, so enjoy it while it lasts!! Head-hunger happens and can be tough to fight but that shouldn't happen for a while either. This is the 'honeymoon' phase when you really don't care at all about food or eating - for myself I HATED the pureed stage and really sort of 'skipped' thru it - after I would puree the food it just looked so disgusting that I couldn't eat it - however, try to as much as possible to start getting your proteins and all in.

Oh yeah, that little thing called WLS happened!!

Geoff,

Don't expect to be hungry for quite a while (except head hunger)... the nerves in your stomach that allow you to feel physical hunger were cut, and nerve regeneration takes a long time!  Treat that as a "gift" (ahhh.... freedom from hunger!) as you learn to eat to live instead of living to eat.

Congrats on the good report from the doc.  The gallbladder meds are pretty routine for folks who still have theirs.  Some docs reportedly just take the gallbladder when they do the RNY.  Luckily I already had mine out, so was not an issue for me.

The one bit of advice is to take it slow in trying new foods and to always try new things AT HOME (if you dump, you don't want to be out anywhere...) for the first time.  Texture is more important at this point than spice... in other words, spicy can be just fine if you want... it's the texture that's going to potentially be more problematic.

Good luck and have fun!
