Five-Day Pouch Test

After being 18 months out, I've gained back roughly 7 lbs. which I don't think is too bad - however, I'm noticing a lot of my old habits (carb/sugar addictions) slowly becoming a part of my diet again.  Definitely don't want that!!!!

I've consistently gotten a clean bill of health from my primary physician - my numbers have been right on the mark.  He tells me repeatedly that having gastric bypass surgery was probably the best thing I could have ever done for myself.  I've kept up with my daily vitamin routine and generally feel great!

I've decided to try the five day pouch test at this point in time.  I want to be able to feel the "full" effects of a small pouch again, after I'm done.  That feeling has assisted me more than anything and provided a real gauge for me to determine when I was full.  Hopefully too, this will help me shed the extra pounds I've gained back.

Before I start (next week, probably) does anyone have any tips, any experiences - how you did?  Just curious.  It seems drastic on paper and hard to believe that at one point, I could only handle Day 1 and Day 2 of the "diet."

Thanks!

Actually, if you get past day 1 and 2 you've past the worst part!  Soldier on!!!   It really makes a difference getting back in touch and realizing how many little bad habits crept back in.  You 'kin do it!!

I heard of this recently at a party.  Is it safe and should we really do it?  Isn't it like one of those crash "diets" we used to do when we were trying to lose weight the hard way?  The woman who told me about it was deathly ill after eating a half of a protein bar because she just came off this plan.  Do our Docs recommend it ?

Sandy - it is perfectly fine to do further out. It is simply a week long revisit to the diet plan we were given as new post ops.

My guess would be that she just ate too much too fast and it would have happened no matter what. The 5DPT does make your pouch more sensitive and makes you more aware of what is going on with it.

I've done it twice now and like Jodi said it isn't the cure all but it helped me to break the carb cycle and get back to being accountable.

I've done it. It definately takes will power and planning. But it helped me nix some of the carbs that had creeped in my diet.

I wouldn't say that it is a "cure all". But it got me back into being strict with myself, being accountable, and cutting out some of those carbs. So overall, it was beneficial for me to do. I had been working on getting the baby weight off, and it got me on track. I only have 6 more pounds to lose to get to pre-baby weight and I do think doing the 5DPT helped get me in line.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
