help - I'm stalled

I am 5 months out from RNY and I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks.  Up until then I have dropped 68 of the 200 pounds I need to lose.  How do I determine if I am doing something wrong or just at a plateau?  I think it is too early on for that.  I still don't tolerate meat very well, so my protein intake is from shakes, cheese, and eggs.
I am getting discouraged as I was finally starting to get to the point where I could really notice the difference.

thx

First of all it isn't too early for a stall! I'm surprised you haven't had one yet actually.

What is your typical intake in a day? You probably need to shake things up a bit! What kind of exercise are you doing? What is your menu like? My Dr would reccomend getting away from the shakes. He prefers you get most of your protein from "natural" sources. Try the meats in different ways - stews, soups, ground with gravy etc to make them more tolerable. Also you can try beans and tofu.

Hope that you start loosing again soon!

Like Liz said your stall is perfectly normal - don't worry - give it a week or two, shake your diet or exercise up a bit and the scale will start moving again. Our bodies play catch up all the time - and hey, you may still be losing inches even tho you're not losing pounds. Several times my actual weight hit a stall but I would drop a pant or top size, or both. You're going to be fine - don't get discouraged - the tool works and will do its job - just give it a chance.

You and I are running very parallel it seems.  I'm a little "younger" than you are surg-wise (my surgery was 4/22).  I JUST got over a 5-week stall (at 69 pounds down) that was very frustrating, even though I knew it was to be expected right about now.

First off, 68 pounds is NOTHING TO SNEEZE AT!  You're doing really, really well - don't let yourself get discouraged!  Your body is just catching up with what you've been doing to it for the past 5 months and is going into "famine mode" where it's trying to wring the maximum from every bite you eat just in case it doesn't get more later (think cave-man survival here).  As others have recommended, change things up.  Exercise differently (different workout, different time of day).  Someone suggested I take a few days off from working out to keep my metabolism off balance.  Eat differently - Nan suggested to me that I eat breakfast at night and dinner in the morning, for example.  She also suggested cutting fruits out of my diet for a few days to cut carbs way down (that was tough for me) and to vary caloric intake every few days - a few days in the mid 700s, a few days at 1100, a few days at 900, for example.  The goal is to trick your body again and get it out of the routine.

If you're having eggs and cheese, keep a close eye on the fats.  Egg beaters is a great substitute that you'll never notice (except in fat intake)... and there are some really tasty low-fat cheeses out there.  For other protein sources, fish is an excellent choice and one that shoudl be easily tolerated... salmon, tilapia, tuna, all high in protein and low in fat.  Vegetarian chilies (smart chili is one really great brand) are good protein sources... add a dollop of greek yogurt instead of sour cream and it's even higher in protein.  Ground meats and very thin "stir fry" prep meats may also be easier to tolerate.

Hope this helps!  Just focus on the fact that you're doing really well, and your body is reacting to the amazing progress you've made so far.  It's a sign of your success!

What Karen said, but also keep an eye on your carbs, I know we aren't supposed to count carbs, however, when you stall out, this is the time to review what your doing.  Even if you are taking in all natural carbs, they may be a little too high.  Try not the let them exceed your fat limit.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.
