So - as many of you know I went back to school today.  Most of my colleagues have not seen me since school let out last June 25.  They were excited then with my progress, and were looking forward to seeing me the beginning of this school year.  Well, needless to say, 25 more pounds gone and wearing clothes that fit - they were thrilled and amazed and hugged me and cheered me on.  It was, of course wonderful and ego boosting!  However, the best part of the day happened with two unexpecting former students.  As I was walking out of my classroom, down the hallway I saw a former student that just graduated in June, he waved and i walked quicly into someone elses classroom to deliver a message, as I walked out of her room, he was closer to me and his eyes lit up and he said, "WOW!" quite loudly!  I smiled, hugged, and thanked him and moved on.

I was then walking out of the building heading to lunch with some colleagues and I happened to have seen another former student, who also just graduated in June, riding his bike by the school, I said, "are you ready for high school?"  His response as he was riding past me with a big surprised smile on his face was, "Mrs. Belitsky, you're skinny!"

I think the comments from my kids are the most amazing part of this journey.  I felt that I was able to tell them last year why I needed to have surgery for me, what a sugar addiction trully is, and why any addiction is serious.  They are getting to see the results of recovery.  I hope I have made an impact on them in many ways, not just in Math!

Oh - and one final fun wow - I was on my lap-top last night, guess where the compter was sitting......yep.....on my ACTUAL lap! :)  Go figure! :)

Awesome day for you.  That is great.....I showed my students my drivers license photo, taken pre-op, and they did not believe it was me.

I had a good day...we had a catered breakfast with gourmet foods, and received lunchbags, mugs and day planners all as a thank you because we made AYP.  It was great, because I was just expecting a bagel...

Is your room ready?  If so, come do mine...LOL

Have a good day tomorrow.

love,
Trish

Good luck with getting your room done!  Why oh why, cant it wait for the students to come in and do it for us?!?! :)

I know what you mean...the kids packed my room in June...took down the posters and put all the books away, yada yada.  When my kids were at home, I took them in and paid them to do all that stuff, then my niece, when she was in high school.  Now, it is just lil ole me.  Plus, my room was used for Summer School, and the custodians did not clean off the desks, so I spent over an hour wiping all the desks off with Mr. Clean...yuck!!!!!  Then, there were the pockets, which had to be labeled with this year's room assignments and distributed.  What fun...especially when I had a kid who goofed off most of last year, and almost went to Summer School, get assigned to the section that gets Algebra with Mr. Squillace.  So, I had to look into that one.  Turns out he did Advanced in Math on the PSSA.

Hey Steffi,

Sounds like we had very similar first day back....Most of my coworkers were shocked by my appearance and said I looked "Great"! Many of them hugged me and congratulated me on my success. It will be interesting to see what my students will say. Hopefully, they will have positive things to say just like yours did! It is a lot of hard work but well worth the good feeling you get when people notice all of the hard work. One of my coworkers actually had me walk and then said that I used to "waddle" and now I walk!! All in all it was a WOW day.....

Isn't it funny when things are actually used as they should be(the laptop) :)

BTW, I go for my 3 month check up tomorrow...I will post about my progress.
