Sorry people.  When I came home from my appointment with Dr. Marymor, I shared that he mentioned a book and website for me to look into.  I put the papers he gave me away, and have been so crazy busy with getting ready for school, I forgot to post that info.

The name of the book is "Protein Power."  The website is http://www.okinawaprogram.com/okinawa_diet/okinawa_diet_food_pyramid.html

The Okinawa Diet is not what he was pushing, just the food pyramid they have there.

Basically, I believe he was trying to help me just get my thinking more in tune with less carbs, more protein.

I hope this helps.

Trish,

Wow - i really like the food pyramid you cited.  It seems so much more sensible than the USDA pyramid and I love that it's broken down into "eat daily" and "occasional/weekly."   I do find the number of servings a bit odd - i'm assuming those are weekly numbers (7 - 13 servings of veggies per day?)...

Thank you for sharing!

i really expected more protein.  i was surprised to see meat/poultry as optional weekly --- unless i'm reading it wrong.
