ohhhhhh WHY do i do this still....i have a bellyache
Denise,
It took you how many years to "learn" the habits of eating too much and too quickly? Those habits are what we revert to when the "newness" of the experience wears off if we're not conscious of our eating.
As an example, I actually ordered honey mustard dressing (on the side) for my salad the other night, just like I used to do all the time pre-surg. The waitress brought it, I dipped my fork in and took a bite, realized that it tasted WEIRD (way too sweet and the honey just was awful), and realized what I had done! I haven't had that type of dressing since before surgery due to the fat and sugar content, but I was tired and just reverted to the old habit. Luckily she understood and was nice enough to bring me the balsamic I should have ordered in the first place ;-).
Old habits die hard, and I think the further out we are, the harder it can be to keep them from creeping back in.

Denise,
That's been my biggest problem since surgery. I have to remind myself all the time to slow down. And my beau 'nags' at me about it too. (I really do appreciate him doing that! It means he cares about me, and I need the help remembering to slow down.) You're not alone banging your head into that wall! lol

Habits are hard to break...I totally relate to this. I am back to school, and will be eating most of my lunch during a morning prep period, because I only have a half hour lunch period, which by the time I walk all the way to the bathroom and back, I have 15 minutes left to eat and process my meal before I face the next group. I usually want to hurl five minutes into class. So, I slow down and eat my main part of lunch at 10:00, and have a yogurt during the actual lunch period.
Don't panic. You will eventually slow down. Make signs and put them up around your house...SLOOOOOOOW DOOOWWWWN!!!
Hugs,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

almost 2 years out...and that was me last week. At WORK none the less. Something I have never ever EVER done is eat to fast at work.
Goes to show you - we're all stupid.
Just remember to keep this as a reminder at least for right now and to use it as a lesson that your pouch works....and not to tempt it!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Hi,
Are you watching TV or reading while you eat? This can distract you from taking the time to enjoy your meal/snack.
I have an idea. There is a technique called mindful eating. What you do is you have a meal with no distractions. Get a journal or pad of paper. First, just look at what you prepared. If it evokes any emotional response write it down. If it has a smell, do the same thing. Then, take a bite. Notice how it feels in your mouth, how it tastes. If it evokes an emotion, or not, write about it. Do this through your whole meal. This will slow you down and make you think about what you are eating. Then, write about the whole experience. Do this as often as you need, even with snacks.

Old habits die hard, as you're hearing from everyone - lesson learned and you'll be fine now for a while - but trust me, it'll probably happen again - sometimes I think its because we're feeling so good and almost 'forget' we have special tummies now. And now you probably have a headache to go along with the stomach ache!! LOL!! Feel better soon...
