My Mother has wanted to get Gastric Bypass surgery, but my Fathers insurance refuses to pay for it! She was considering early retirement, and applying for SSD. I was wondering if anyone knew if Medicare pays for this surgery, and if so, what percent?
Thanks for any feedback on this matter.. It is greatly appreciated!!

If you look right above you on this page some people have posted surgeons that accept Medicare.

Yes Medicare will pay for the surgery. They have some specific guidelines and they only pay somewhere around  80%. You can look it up on the Social Security website or call the Social Security office and ask some questions. Hope this helps.

Don`t they also have to go to a cite and doctor that is considered a "center of excellence" or something like that?

I do believe that it must be a center of excellence for them to cover it,as some of the people in my support group were waiting for my surgeons group to be certified.

I know I am a little late but it depends on your DR and the amount she would pay is based on her coverage
