Hey All

When in doubt turn to those that seem to know the answers or can offer some feedback...

Seems my boss is switching  health insurance we currently have Keystone Health Plan East and he is switching us to Aetna ..I have not heard much good about them compared to Keystone ..
Can any one offer Aetna feedback for me?

My employer just went from Aetna to Keystone HP East because the rate went up.  I never used either plan so I don't know what the down side is.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Nan , we have the Keystone HP East and it was great coverage..I am really upset but we are switching because Keystone doubled in cost. ....So Aetna eems to be the new coverage.

I understand what your saying, but the opposite has happened at my job.  The boss said the rates were awful and switched immediately to KHPE.

Beth,
I had Aetna on and off for years. It really depends on what your employer picks as your benefits. I currently use my husband's plan which is Keystone Health Plan East and it's an HMO and sometimes it's a pain to nag everyone to get referals from my primary care doctor however I like them right now. Aetna is very tricky some plans are really great and some do not cover anything. I had my WLS when I had Aetna and since Barix is not participating clinic with them I ended up paying $2500 out of my own pocket. I was smart as I had flexible spending that I opened up at the beginning of the year so I did not miss that money in one shot. Ask questions about what they will cover and the percentage especially out of network providers. Hang in there it's the sign of the times these day. We really need health care reform soon.

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

I'm in the same boat Beth, and with plastics in the future, I'm starting to squirm.   I've had KHPE for 17 yrs at my company totally paid for.  I had no probs w/my WLS because of supporting docs etc. but in the last two years KHPE is auditing almost every doc appt. I go to and denied payment when I went to see Dr. Brader at LGH and he ran some tests, OOP was almost $400, which I'm still paying off.  Then my co. decided we had to start contributing, OOP $1300 last year, would be $2600 this year but KHPE decided to drop us as we have less than 20 folks participating now; not worth their paperwork costs they say.   We've had 3 interruptions of service too which is not good when you have a husband with daily med needs and you run out.   Our co. choice is to go with Aetna (I hear there is a lot more hoop jumping.)  None of my current docs are in their network.  We can also go to Premera PPO through our home office in Seattle, WA and while it might cost the same extra OOP as KHPE, all my docs are available and (I think) I can see whomever I want as long and go wherever I want as long as I pay a small OOP and meet criteria for service.

Everyone at my office that has Aetna seems to like them but they do make you do more to get coverage compared to Keystone AND you have to use their docs.

Lisa works for them so I would assume she has their coverage - I am sure she'd be happy to answer your questions too. WE used to have KHPE and it was awesome - now we have United Health Care - a Health Savings account and it sucks!

Good luck with the switch!

Yes, I do work for Aetna, but as Shilpas said it depends on what plan your employer picks for you.  I was only covered at 50% after my HIGH HIGH HIGH deductible for the surgery.  That's why I decided to have it done in February BEFORE my separation and before my ex husband got laid off.  I was still covered under his Blue Cross, too.  SO, I had coverage under both plans.  You would have to read the materials provided for you by Aetna.  If you need help interpreting anything I can help.  BUT, all plans are different so I can't really give you a general idea.  Sorry.
