Lactose intolerant?

I am pretty sure this has happened to me.  Can you tell me what you use for milk- which tastes best.  I have seen some non-dairy ice creams made with coconut milk that looked interesting, but I am looking for something to put in my wand to mix with some protein powder.  Also, do they made a cheese for us to eat or am I just out of luck?

I use silk unsweetened soy milk - love it! I want to try almond milk though. Watch the coconut milks - alot of them are sweetened.

Cheese you should be fine with - from what I have read and experienced the lactose is killed with the cooking process. I have horrible trouble with milk but am OK with cheese and yogurt. Forget about ice cream.

Good luck!!

Funny thing with cheese...I can eat it in a salad, but I cannot eat it melted on anything...like a cheeseburger or omlette.  Sucks because I LOVE Cheese!!  I can do yogurt too.

Are you using a low fat or fat free cheese? Sometimes the "melty" ones like american or cheddar are higher in fat and we have more of them at one time. The shredded stuff is more readily available as 2% milk or fat free and we tend to eat less...

just an idea!

How are things going otherwise?

Sandra,

You can also try Rice milk (which is REALLY tasty) - just get the original to keep the sugar within tolerance.  Rice Dream is the brand I like.  Mixes up nicely with protein for a shake, too.

There are also soy cheeses that are pretty good, and if you look in the vegan section of a good grocer's fridge (like Wegmans) you'll find a variety of options.  Some taste great, others are a bit not, but they're worth exploring.

I never use full fat cheese.  For slices we use Naturally Slender and shredded we use 2%.  Don't know!

Other things are pretty well.  I was told I would not remember any of this in 6 months LOL

I am going to try the rice milk then.  I want it for protein drinks..I don't need it for much else LOL
