my version of zip line wows!

As most of you know, I went on a zip line tour with friends on Saturday.  It was the most awesome thing I have done in my adult life (next to giving birth to my child, of course).  On the way there, I was thinking about the adrenaline rush of zipping from tree to tree.  That was the easy part.  Not once was I thinking about the various challenges that we would encounter just to get to the different zip lines. (the first of which was simply climbing up a treehouse like ladder which was only a few rungs--1st new experience --and we didn't even get to the first tree yet.)

I also misunderstood what I read and thought that there was an "easy" way to get from tree to tree.

                                                  BOY WAS I WRONG!!

And dare I say I'm glad I was wrong.  If I had been right, I'm pretty sure I would have taken the easy way out.   This way I was forced to do things I never ever would have done.

We walked across a long suspension bridge.. you know the kind that they show in movies that is between two mountains and there is only a rope on either side of you to help steady you.. yeah that kind.  The only difference was that we were safely harnessed to a cable and we had great people cheering me on from both sides!  We rappelled down a tree and a rock wall tower.  WHAT?!?!

Then, there was the cargo net.  I seriously thought I was done when I saw that this was the "easy" way to get up to this next tree.  BUT, I watched the others do it (especially Nicole and her bad ass calves)  and when it came to my turn I just put one foot in front of the other and took my time and made it to the top with Pam literally at my heels!

From there came the 45 mph zip line.. This one scared me.. might because of all the extra safety warnings we got from the guides to make sure we didn't seriously injure ourselves by slamming into a tree. Yeah, that would be why.. LOL!  What a ru**** was!! AND, I'm alive to talk about it!!

The other challenges involved a smaller suspension bridge and a high wire type cable that you were actually supposed to reach up and grab the rope, pull your legs up and crawl across the traverse upside down for more than 40 feet-- I didn't do that one--I just shimmied across the rope.
I honestly regret not trying to do this one the "right" way.

There was also the vine traverse bridge.. the show off guide did gym rope type crossing of this.  I was happy that the ropes hanging down were close enough to me to grab as I inched my way across the cable.  LOL!

The last zip was the tower zip line where we went 340 feet onto the top of the rock climbing tower.  At this point, I missed the ramp that was carefully pointed out to me and I was just kind of hangin' around.  The guide pulled me, yes one SKINNY guy PULLED me to safety and helped me to plant my feet safely where they were supposed to go.  Then, as I'm looking for the way down and asking where the stairs are.. Mr. Showoff points over the side of the tower and tells me that is the only way down.  SO, we finished off this fantastic experience by rappelling down the rock wall.

I am so glad that I was able to experience this and with a great support system.  We all were there for each other the way we should have been!  What a fantastic day!!!!!

I have to say that I am truly, truly impressed by all of you guys who went zip lining this weekend - OMG I never realized all that was involved with doing something like that!! Not sure how I thought you'd get to the top of those mountains and stuff but I never guess crossing those bridges, the rock walls, etc! I doubt it is something I could ever do considering my bi-lat knee replacements, but I am so happy for all you folks who drummed up the courage and fortitude to get out there and do it - it had to feel AMAZING and AWESOME!!

Congrats to all of you guys for doing it - I'm a bit envious but truly impressed!!

Wow - it sounds like a wonderful day of pushing yourself beyond the limits you had previously set for yourself and finding amazing successes!  I really wish I could have been there and am looking forward (with some trepidation, now, I confess!) to the next outing!

Congratulations Lisa!
