So this morning I wake up with the biggest urge to pee and nothing happens but a trickle.....uggg I have never had a urinary tract infection before and quite frankly I was treating it as a yeast infection for three days which probablly made it worse and now I am having really dark cloudy urine.  And it is painful...

But I went tot he doctor and he put me on 500mg of Cipro and some pain pills for the cramping if needed...

But my question (especially to my nurse friends out there!!!!) How long before the antibiotics kick in and I get some relief??? I know it is a bad bacterial infection due to me treating it as a yeast infection for three days but is there any timeline as to when I will get some relief???

I am drinking lots of fluids too and hubby is off to find me no sugar added Cranberry juice too...is there anything else I can do?? This is awful...

Thanks for your help!!!!

Much luv!!
Laura

Sorry to hear you are going through this! A couple days you should be feeling better! Just have to get the antibiotics into your system. The cranberry will help too - jus****ch - I have to water it down or the natural sugars sometimes upset my pouchie.

The only other thing is water water water!

Hope that you feel better REALLY soon!

I used to get them regularly - and I didn't drink any juice - so it was water water water for me - it should only be a day or two if I remember correctly - I do, however, remember how AWFUL it is!  I hope you start to feel better soon!

The "cramping" pain pills - is it pyridium?  THAT'S what is gonna make you feel better.

If they didn't give you pyridium, do yourself a favor and go to a Walgreens, CVS...whatever...and get yourself anything that says "urinary analgesic" or "urinary tract infection pain relief" or something like that.  I think AZO is one brand, although I'm not sure of it.  Most of these will stain your urine orange...and can also stain your tears orange so if you wear contacts, make sure you don't wear them.  But anyway - helps the urging, the burning, the frequency, the spasms....MUCH more tolerable.

And drink lots and lots of water in the meantime, especially if you don't have the spasm (pyridium) like medication.  It will help in two ways.  1, you will dilute your urine so there's not as much bacteria which is what is causing your pain, and 2, it will put more stuff IN your bladder so when you do pee, at least you feel productive.

They are miserable things...I hope you feel better soon!

UTI's are so painful.  When I get one I take the cranberry pills, but you many not be able to take them yet,...rule of thumb for antibiotics...within 3 days you should have lots of relief.  Hope you are doing better soon.

I AGREE 100% on the AZO Cranberry pills.  I have needed them twice and they work in A DAY.  I take the maximum you can take (6 daily) and honestly both times it took 2 days of taking them,,,was better the next day.  Then you don't have to worry about the sugar or filling on the juice.
