A question for those of us 2+ years out....

I know some of us went through that stage where our hair falls out like mad.  I was one of those...  sitting on my bedroom floor crying brushing my hair, while clumps of it was falling out. Had a nice little almost-bald spot right on top of my head for a while!!   Anyways, that passed...

Now here I am...   28 months out, and my hair is falling out again like crazy!!!     Did everyone, or someone, experience this at all??   Biotin didn't help at all the last time, but I'm willing to give it another whirl! My protein goals are being hit almost every day still...   I'm stumpped!

Any suggestions???

Mary - have you had your thyroid levels checked? When mine go low my hair starts to thin. I also noticed just over 2 years out it started back up again. It did go away quickly though - hope that yours does too!

have your thyroid and a good blood work up done.
if you are under in protein, or hormone or b-12 it can do that.
mine is coming out again but it is due to the plastic surgery

Thanks ladies!  I'm off to the dr. monday to get these stitches out, so I'll ask him to give me paperwork to have my bloodwork done.

I agree with what the others said about thyroid. Also, my hair is affected by which birth control pill I take, or other hormonal madness from the PCOS.

My hair began falling out again heavily around the 2 year mark but for me it was because I had my plastics done at that stage and realized that it's my reaction to having surgery and being placed under general anestesia... the shock I've put my body through after the bypass then again with the PS both triggered the same response... You mentioned you have to have stiches removed, I'm not sure what you had done, but it it was a surgical procedure of any kind, that may have something to do with it :)  A shot in the dark but thought I'd throw it out there.

Yea...I was gonna say the same thing about labs....

CBC w/ diff
CMP
TSH
T3
T4
b12
folic acid
Mg
thiamine/b1

The TSH/T3/T4 is for thyroid...cbc will help check for baseline anemia (although you may need further labs drawn for more specifics) the CMP will check most of your electrolytes (sodium, potassium, kidney function etc) and then the others are for vitamin levels if you wanna go that route, as well.

Good luck!

Hi Mary,

You say that you took Biotin and it didn't work but how much did you take?  I am almost 4 years out and I still go through the hair loss at time but lately I think it is from stress.  My blood work is all fine including an ultra sound of my thyroid (not just the blood work for the thyroid).  I started to see an amazing herbalist.  He has me on a product called Nourish Blood.  I can find out more info about it and get back to you.  I've only been on it for about 3 weeks so it's too early to tell but the herbalist has done some other things for me that have had great positive results.  So I'm hoping the results for the hair loss will be the same.

I was just in China teaching for 2 months and my hair started falling out again.  I figured out that it was because I was not eating enough protein (China is not a big protein country).  So, I finally wound up having hubby mail me two big bags of proteing powder and that solved the problem.

yep, it happened to me, but not as much as the first time.  now i have all that re-growth again that makes it look like all my hair broke off and is unhealthy.  i was a little irritated by it.  i did get my labs checked, and i seem to be on the mend now.
