I've been a bad girl........
Hi All -
I'm ok with a "virtual" hand slap on this one.......I'm looking for feedback, so I appreciate all responses
I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea prior to surgery. I received my C-pap machine and logged my 200+ hours that were required.
Since surgery (7 weeks ago), I have barely used it. I sleep much better without it and feel well rested when I wake up. I mentioned discontinuing use to Dr. P and she said that she doesn't recommend stopping until at least 60 pounds have been lost. I'm down 37, including pre-op loss.
I really just want to return the unit to my supplier, not go back in October for a follow-up sleep study and forget that I ever had the machine.
Sometime soon, my supplier is going to call me to get my hours. I'm guessing that there might be an insurance issue since my hours are probably about 10 more than last month.
Should I turn the unit in or should I try to use it???
Any thoughts or butt kicking's would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa

I have 2 answers -
1) listen to your body
BUT
2) if it is going to cause an isurance nightmare - use it for the next 6 weeks and say good bye to it for the rest of your life!! My hubby wears one - HATED it at first - the more he wore it the more he likes it - now he won't leave home without it
You are doing great!

I am a big believer in listening to Dr. Pupkova's advice. And, as a nurse, I do NOT say that about many doctors. However, I do with her.
I, personally, would continue to wear it. You are already half way past the the point of where Dr. Pupkova thinks you could probably do without it; so it shouldn't take all THAT much longer.
Sleep apnea, even mild forms, can lead to high blood pressure, increased acid reflux (read: increased risk of ulcers for us), cardiac damage etc. With all those factors hopefully DIMINISHING with your weight loss - why not take out some "extra insurance" (not medical...but figuritively speaking) to help decrease those health problems even further?
The cpap machine is not a fun device by any means and I can't blame you for wanting to get rid of it - but it will soon be over, and then you can have the piece of mind after a repeat study to actually PROVE that your apnea is improved, and your over all health is improved.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Hi Lisa - I have been on my Cpap machine for about three years - (Looking forward to the next sleep study - hopefully wont need it anymore) However, it took me three weeks to get used to it - I often woke up in the middle of the night having ripped it off of my face. Each night it got better and now I am a nervous wreck to nap without it - Although I am hoping that I will not need it after my next sleep study.
I always said that I was a great sleeper! I just napped many days becuase I was a mother of three busy kids and worked full time. Once I started sleeping with the cpap regularly, I realized that although I didn't know I was waking up twice every minute, I was becuase I stopped needing to nap during the day. I have really slept better in the last three years than I did for many years prior to that.
I am just thinking hat you might want to try it again and give it a good couple of weeks to try it out - even if you only ned it for a little while longer.
