why the angry face... my mom just got kicked out of work for 3 days without pay because a patient lied... my mom is a cardic RN for a hospital in Indy... and her manager is a wack job... a patient lied about a bunch of stuff and then said my mom screamed and yelled etc... called her stupid and pointed her finger at her...

First off my mom has NEVER called anyone stupid because of all the learning disabilities my sister has... 2nd she has never been a finger pointer/wagger... trust me- I did a ton of stupid things as a kid... that never happened... and since my grandmother (her mom) died of Congestive Heart Failure my mom takes her job very seriously and tries very hard at her job... my mom did everything the patient wanted... everything... called doctors, the pharm, etc... any questions they had my mom got them the answers... but they didnt like the answers... so they made up lies... my mom told the truth... the doctors told them the same thing...

But her hospital is all about the patient safifactory scores... whatever they want they get... if a heart patient wants more salt... they give it to them... can we say OMG... anyways...

My mom also has a hearing loss in each ear... so a lot of people think she is rude but she just doesn't hear them... they all know this (the other nurses) and my mom explains this to her patients so they understand... if she isn't looking at you she isn't going to hear ya...

BUt please pray for her... she loves her job but all the older nurses feel like they have huge targets on their back... the manager has gotten rid of 2 other older nurses... my mom and another nurse think they are next...

please pray

I am so sorry. I hope that this is just a fluke and not a prelude. I will keep her in my thoughts

i wi**** was a fluke... but it isn't... what the patient says is the only thing that counts... she could of told management she was doing a striper pole dance and they would of believed her... and oh my lord you don't wanna see my mom naked... eek!

I feel for her....it's the true nature of the business.  I've had very similar episodes and although I have not gotten suspended over any of them - it's been close.  All due to the patient satisfactory stuff and what not.  There are times no matter how much you do for a patient and/or their family they are mad at you and believe you have done nothing.

Hopefully this will all blow over soon enough!

well the woman told my mom she was having an allergic recation to hyprine (not sure of the spelling)... so my mom took her off it right away and called the Pharm to see what to do... also called the doctor and told him... the Pharm and the doctor both agreed she wasn't having an allergic reaction... and what the woman was trying to do was get something else and I think she said was a really strong narcotic... which the doctor told her every time he was in she wasn't going to get it... the Pharm also said she couldn't have it because it would kill her because of how her heart was... so my mom told the woman and her family what the Pharm and the doc said... they weren't going to give her the drug she wanted... and they said she wasn't having an allergic reaction... but if she didn't want to take the orginal med she didn't have to take it...

My mom used to be one of the patient educators- so you only get that job if you are good with people... but once the new manager came in she took her and the other nurses off it... and now no one does it... this new manager is very two faced... and has her own little group... if you aren't in it you are on her list... she writes up everyone... one girl got writen up because she went to lunch 5 mins early... only the manager's watch said a different time... so the girl really went to lunch at the correct time...

This is why I could never be a nurse... I would mouth off and tell the manager to stick it where the sun don't shine... and I'm pretty sure I would of done that with some of the patients my mom has gotten in the past as well lol...

Prayers for your Mom.

Please tell her, that she should also take a proactive stand here by keeping documentation on this and any other incidents that have occurred in the past or might in the future, from what you are saying here, it appears there is a serious discrimination suit here, as in age discrimination and we do have laws to protect older workers, so long as she does her job and you said the doctors would back her up.  Seriously, tell her to start documenting any and all events, if there is a pattern of discrimination, then she might be able to do something legally in the event she has to and if she is friends with those other nurses who were let go, she should talk to them to see if they want to present a class action.  I am not someone who believes in suing for a stubbed toe, but when people's livelihoods are at stake, it's a damn shame.

Wishing her all the *******aureen

well she has... they even sent her to "talk" to someone because of her "rude-ness"... and the guy said each time it wasn't her it was them... they know she has a hearing loss, etc... but these young nurses that are like 19 straight out of school have to be treated like stupid little princesses there it isn't even funny... I told her a few years ago to look some where else to work till she retires... but she didn't do it... now she has 2 years till she can retire... who is going to want to hire someone at almost 60...

Shannon I am going to ask such a stupid question but here it goes....doesn't the nurses have a union?  And furthermore it sounds like the patient has a drug habit so they should check her meds (drug) record thats a shame she is going thru this I shall keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best for her. I am sure that the fact that she has a hearing loss will be taken into account I know from personal experience since I wear a hearing aid also and sometimes I miss things simply because I didn't hear it and sometimes I have a tone or attitude unententionally in my case. Her supervisor should go to the mat for her what kind of crap is that?!
