Anyone have period problems after WLS?
Just curious if anyone has ever had period problems after WLS? Okay I was normal before my WLS getting it every 35 days...well I was suppose to get my monthly last friday. Well still nothing and I took a prego test and it came out neg. I figured losing weight I would get my period more on the regular just like before...or worse from what others have said.
It is my understanding that you could have irregular periods while loosing the weight. Your loosing at such a rapid pace, your body goes through all of these changes including hormonal changes, which is why it is easily possible to get pregnant. I personally take birth control to be able to skip my period.

Periods can definately change. And also know that BC Pills are not effective for RNY patients. Just ask Riley & Jantzen! LOL. I was NEVER told I would malabsorb BC Pills. I had no idea. Of course, it didn't matter in the end.
But if you are serious about not being pregnant, you should use 2 forms of protection during this big change in your body.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
I can tell you that I have had alot of hormaonal and period problems...My OB/GYN wants to do an ablation because my periods are so bad I have bleed as long as 16 days full strength it was horrible...the cramping everythign..I am on the ring now, I am fixed I had the essure done...My baby factory making days are over...I had a second opinion and I think I may just have to get the ablation done...good luck...

Well, mine still comes regularly BUT i've noticed a real change in PMS and cramps post-surg. My doc said to expect changes because of all the estrogen being released as your body processes all the fat (which stores estrogen in it), so for a while (undefined - different for each person) I can look forward to the mood swings and cramps and such until most of that stored estrogen gets flushed out with the fat. Lovely image, eh?
Keep in mind that stress can also make you skip periods. During one of the worst stressor periods of my life I didn't get my period for 6 months - made me crazed. I kept going to the doc and getting preg tests because I couldn't believe it was just stress doing it... and of course that stressed me more and made it worse. I know you guys have being going through a really stressful time, so perhaps that's contributing to it.

I'm with the other ladies -surgery can throw your cycle into a tailspin for a bit. My surgeon reccomended a "barrier" method of BC for the first 6 months in addition to the pill - just to be safe.
Hang in there! If it doesn't show up in a few more days I would test again and call the Dr - can't hurt! They will probably send you for a blood test to see where you levels are at and can even give you something to bring it on.

Mine regulated for awhile...but now it's all over the place again...but I have an underlying thyroid issue that also plays a part in that...so everyone else's advice is good....
Hope things work itself out soon - it's a pain to be dealing with that kind of stuff!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
