OT - keep my coworkers (and me) in your thoughts
I received word today that a security guard/ER tech/local fire fighter at my perdiem job, Wayne, passed away unexpectedly today.
He was probably around 37, although I don't know his exact age. He has three children, I know one of which is around 19. He was very dedicated to his family, and his job. I've known him for over 6 years and this is quite a shock.
His fiancee is a nurse that I work with there. Apparantly he began to have a seizure in bed (has no history of seizures), fell out of the bed - and she realized although the seizure activity had stopped, he was not breathing and had no pulse and started CPR
They brought him to the ER where we all work, where they "worked him" (ie continued CPR and all other life saving measures) for well over 45 mins, which is a long time for someone to be worked on, but with how young and otherwise healthy he was, they try to give as much of a chance as possible, not to mention the emotional attatchment that they all had due to knowing him personally.
My ER staff is obviously very upset by the news and by "seeing it" all. I was not there at the time, and I am shocked and saddened by the news.
I won't get to see any of them until Thursday or Friday (when I'm next scheduled to work down in jersey) , and hopefully by then they will have some more answers as to what caused all of this.
Thanks,
Pam

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Pam,
I am so sorry to hear about this. Its always such a shock when it is someone so young, and then to have to try to save someone you know is beyond comprehension to me. If you want too, PM me the name of the hospital.... the employees with benefits may be entitled to crisis counseling through us for free as we have several hospital systems over in Jersey (pre determined amount of sessions). If not us, then there should be a number on the back of their insurance cards for MH services for anyone who feels they may want to pursue it.
My prayers go out to everyone involved.
